Doc says I have no allergies. I have tried Zyrtec,Claritin,Allegra, etc. I have normal skin, no rash or hives, just the unbearable itching. Doc prescribed Paxal ( I am a very calm and laid back person. I am not hyper or nervous, so the paxil only made me jittery.) I tried Clonidine which my Doc. said would help me sleep. and it did, but I woke up itching. I have tried process of elimination with foods, materials, chemicals, drinking different bottled waters. I have recently started taking Biotin 300mcg with breakfast. (skin and hair supplement) Along with the cornstarch and baking soda bath each day. I am actually starting to get some relief. Hopefully it is the biotin supplement.-- posted by oceanmist » oceanmist - Re: Re: Itchy hands and feet In response to Re: Itchy hands and feet posted by Pam2222:-- posted by oceanmist » choice60 - Re: Re: Re: Itchy Hands and Feet In response to Re: Re: Itchy Hands and Feet posted by Pam2222:It's almost 3:00 AM and here I am surfing the net for reasons why my hands are so itchy. I am an insulin dependant diabetic and my doctor suspects that all my ailments are due to my sugar level being out of control. (Actually, it was high tonight.) However, I don't think this is what the cause is because it has become so common. I read all the other posts on itchy hands/feet and got some great ideas. I have gotten in the habit of takinbenadrylyl at night before bed, which seems to work and helps to have a good night sleep. I couldn't find mbenadrylyl last night when I went to bed and woke up again with the same problem. My itching does seem to spread once I start scratching, usually to my thighs and I have noticed that those areas get small raised bumps. I don't like being dependant obenadrylyl & would love to find the cause of this itching. This has gone on now for about 4 years. I had a really bad episode one time and my doctor gave me a shot oprednisonene, which got rid of the hives I had developed, but also made my sugar levels go off the charts. It sounds like the symptoms are an allergic reaction or some kind of out of balance condition (yeast) to me. I have also had some times with itchy feet, but usually I can attribute that to the start of athletes foot and not part of the itchy hand condition. Thank you all for sharing your itchy stories and remedies! -- posted by choice60 » Falcon0851 - Itchy hands & feet :-( Hello everyone. It is good to see that someone else besides me SUFFRS from this ailment. This condition has plagued me for the past seven years and there has been absolutely NOTHING I could do to stop it. Friends and family members have a difficult time understanding the level of absolute pain. To say it hurts is a gross understatement. The itching at times can be so bad it can cause my knees to buckle. Even the simple acts of dreaming, waking up, sex, watching a funny program on TV, using the bathroom or any physical activity results in excruciating pain.As mentioned earlier, I have suffered with this problem for the past seven years. Mine, however seems to be seasonal. From September thru April the following year, I am in hell. Each fall I visit a different specialist; Allergist, Dermatologist, Medical Doctors, Physiologist, and hypnotist. Each year I hope for an advancement in science, and each year I am disappointed. I have tried steroids, antihistamines, lotions & creams, laundry detergent, bath soap and all kinds of internal & external medications. Doctors are clueless as to the cause and ALL have given up on me. I am actually a VERY healthy person other than this itching problem. I workout in the gym regularly 4-5 times a week for about 90 minutes each day, but here are the things that I have noticed over the years: MSM w/Sulfur dietary supplement and one 81mg Aspirin seems to ease the pain quite a bit. I read on another site about the possibility of this mess being a problem with BILE ACIDS, SALTS and a malfunctioning liver as possible causes for our symptoms. Sulfur supplements are supposed to be somewhat of a treatment for this condition. I just started taking 2 tabs twice a day for the past 2 days, and I have not had any trouble. I hope to God this works. I even went to the gym this morning without the usual pain. If you want to try a supplement, PLEASE use it ONLY as directed. DO NOT DOUBLEDOSE. Read all you can about it, and understand its intended affect on your body. You don’t want to trade one horror for another. I’ll be honest with you; I was hurting so bad I was willing to try ANYTHING! I know that only one day is not enough for most people to get excited about. But this ONE-day represents a blessing for me. I may be fooling myself, but I have got to have hope that I will find a way of dealing with this problem. Otherwise, my quality of life will remain in a dismal state. Try your best to get active, if not just a little and see how works for you. MSM w/Sulfur 2 tabs twice a day and one 81mg Aspirin twice a day (If you’re not allergic to any of this stuff). Please let us know how this works out for you. I pray to God that we will find relief. -- posted by Falcon0851 » sylvie1967 - Re: Re: New itcher In response to Re: New itcher posted by robinbird15:Did you find out what this was? I have the exact same thing! -- posted by sylvie1967 » dneal1960 - Itchy Hands I just found this site and found that I too have some of the same symptoms. I first though had an allergic reaction to shellfish. I was at the beach and handled some raw shrimp (trying to get them ready for the grill) and then ate some when cooked. Developed a terrible rash, hives, felt sick - hands swelled up and were itchy and even throbbed. Ended up at the immediate care and had steroid and antihistime shot. Everything got better for a couple of days and then peaked again. I ended up back in IC again - this time was prescribed oral steroids. I am now going into the second week and while the rash and hives are better - the itchy palms and hands are worse than ever. I have been taking benedryl and that seems to help some but not enough to take the edge off. I read the post about the honey and I am going to try and see if I can find that. It is just a miserable feeling. I too also have some of the itching on the insides of my thighs and the backs of my knees and thighs. It is just the strangest feeling. Also strange that no one has mentioned Lupus to me before so I will now ask to be tested for that. Thanks for allowing me to vent.-- posted by dneal1960 » oceanmist - Re: Itchy hands & feet :-( In response to Itchy hands & feet :-( posted by FalconcrestThanks for the info. I am trying msm and I also take advil or tylenol, for relief. I just pulled up a sight on chemical allergies. It stated that there are so many different chemicals in our homes, clothing, everyday products that we use that could cause people problems. Even though I have had allergy testing. I continue to think that it is an allergy of some type that causes this terrible itching. It is always worse through the winter months. Sunlight seems to help. -- posted by oceanmist » willo02 - Itchy hands and feet I've read all the postings regarding this subject but haven't found anyone that mentions my dilemma. About three months ago my doctor told me I was hypothyroid and put me on Synthroid. Soon after I started getting bumps, welts really on the tops of my hands and wrists that are quite itchy. The doctor wasn't very helpful when I mentioned them, said I was probably washing my hands too much and I should use a good moisturizer. I have them everyday and now they are appearing on the top of my feet. I really wonder if it is because of the thyroid medicine I am taking. I switched to Armour thinking maybe it was the synthetic thyroid replacement that was the problem, but the welts are still here. Problem is I have to stay on the Thyroid medicine. I haven't been able to find anywhere that this is a side affect from this medicine. Has anyone else had this problem?-- posted by willo02 » ginger6040 - Re: Re: Re: Re: Itchy Hands and Feet I too woke up an hour ago with itchy hands and feet. I couldn't stand it. I left my bedroom, where the constant scratching was keeping my husband awake. I could barely stop scratching long enough to look online. It's starting to subside now but I sure am glad I found this site. I really thought I was losing it.-- posted by ginger6040 » mamacujo - yikes! Itchy feet and hands I'm so glad to have found this board. I have been suffering with this for about 9 years now. I have been on 10mg of Atarax for almost as long. Various doctors have found no reason for it and have said "don't worry about it, the dosage that helps you is so low and side-effect free that it isn't an issue".As long as I take one pill every night I am okay. If I forget to refill my script I am in trouble, it starts up that night and will get very bad if I skip two pills....which I rarely do. Although, once I went on Vacation and my pills were lost/stolen and I thought I was going to freak out. Thankfully it was a weekday and my doc called in the script to a pharmacy where we were staying. My itching just started happening out of the blue. I would be up half the night itching and rubbing my hands and feet until they were bright red and swollen. I was worthless at work because I was so tired. I've been tested for lupus and other things... can't really even remember what all. I really would love to know what my problem is. I am 45, soon to be 46. I'm going to have to go back from the beginning and read all the posts about this. Thanks for being here.
