I have experienced that same thing, i'm so happy to finally understand that it could be something else beside lupus. One day I went to the eye doctor and she said to me that she see cholesterol behind my eyes, which I never heard before, and your story made me remember that day, my doctor did blood work for lupus but not for cholesterol. thank you so much for your story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had a history in both pregnancies of having itchy palms and feet. It was so chronic Id sit up in the middle of the night dragging my feet along the carpet for hours and holding my hands under cold running water to get relief. My gyno told me it was a build up of bile acids and salts coming from my liver and gall bladder not working properly. However as soon as the pregnancies were over I was cured. Just the last week its started again, Im not pregnant, but the symptoms are exactly the same. Ive been told to go for a liver function test and a bile acid test and an ultrasound to check for gal stones. All of these conditions run in my fmaily so Im not surprised Ive got them but the itchiness only has manifested itself in me.Ive gone off alcohol and drinking lots of water to flush my system out, no fats in diet to help the liver. and an antihistamine every so often when I cant stand it.

I too have recently started taking Wellbutrin and now have itchy palms. I can see small bumps that sometimes turn into a larger blister. I haven't been back to the doctor yet, so I do not know her opinion.

I am glad that you have found relief for your itchy hands and feet. I too suffer with this and had a blood work up. My cholesterol is good (182) and I still itch. My doctor said my calcium is low so she gave me calcium. I also takBenadrylyl at night before I go to bed. I really don't think that my calcium has anything to do with my itching nor am I convinced that cholesterol has anything to do with it either. Maybe there is something in thZyrtecec that has an anti-itch effect, I don't know.
My theory about the itching is that because I only get the itching at night when I'm in bed lying down that maybe my circulation is being cut off. This itching drives me crazy too! One time in December '04 the itching was so bad that I went outside barefoot when it was only 11 degrees! It helped!
I am just so surprised that doctors are stumped on the cause. I think the only thing Benedryldryl does is make me sleep through the night. Although I did tBenadryldryl last week one night and still woke up with itchy feet.
Just remember that you are not crazy!

To all you itchy people out there, I just had to share my finds about ACTIVE MANUKA HONEY. Personally l would rather suffer pain than a constant itch. My problem started out with what my dermatologist and myself thought of as contact dermatitis. Okay, the steroids worked in the beginning, but I'm not a DRUG person personally. I like natural remedies the best. And there remedies that actually work. I stopped seeing my dermatologist when he told me I had to figure out what was causing my itching. WRONG. So I went to see my DR who gave me a steoid shot that worked to slow down the itching(that helped for a little while.) So my DR sent me to see an allergist who told me to omitt ANY processed foods, milk, eggs, spicy foods, etc. I just eliminated it all, even breads. I only eat fresh meat or chicken (which I cook myself using only salt), fresh fruits veggies and only drink water). HE took blood tests to check for allergens because he couldn't do regular allergy tests because my body was full of histamines). Found out I had no allergies, GREAT! BUT...he found I had the h.pylori bacteria(helicobacterer pylori). This bacteria has been found to be the cause of ulcers.(I don't have stomach problems.) This bacteria is very common and can be handed down from parent to children. I read somewhere else that hives can also be the start of ulcers. Iknow someone who did the 2week antibiotic method and her ulcers came back. This change in diet stops irritating the pylori bug in my gut. (Hey, I lost some weight too)

A beautiful person from an online vitamin store emailed me to tell me my order was delayed due to backorder and told me to check out Manuka Honey at a website. I did. Talk about GOOOD advice. She had it. It is expensive honey but well worth it. I found a bottle at a local health food store I have been on it since Feb16,2005 and I have had minor itching which is probably due to my skin drying out. I hope it's the honey working. So in addtion to my taking the honey, I also still take Clarinex (in the AM, non-drowsy) and Atarax in the evening) and rub Gold Bond triple action cream to cool down the itch.

I'm not sure how long it will take, but "ACTIVE MANUKA HONEY" is known to kill this bacteria and cure other ailments as well. (Also tastes really good and I'm not a honey person) ALL you guys & gals out there just have to check it out and give it a try. You won' be sorry. And best of all...It's natural not chemical.
P.S. I also bought this little machine they call THE ITCH STOPPER. That really works too.

h.pylori is something most doctors won't check for, so maybe you can ask them about it. Even if they say it's what causes ulcers, Look at me...I don't have stomach problems. At times I felt like "Job" (in the Bible)

Don't give up the ship. Check out your local health food store. I was lucky to find one bottle, everywhere else locally was out of stock.

» oceanmist - Itchy hands and feet

It is good to find someone out there that knows what I am going through. My skin itches along with my feet and palms of hands. It started about six years ago, always after I took a shower. would last for about 20 minutes. Now it is chronic. It comes and goes 24 hours, day and night, and always worse after showering. I have been to several doctors and specialists, to no avail. I don't have allergies or any medical conditions, other then going through menopause. Which I was blaming it on the hormonal changes that I have been through. I hope there is some type of research going on to help us get through this condition. It makes me miserable. I will try the Manuka Honey if I can find it. The Cornstarch and Baking Soda Bath also gave me some relief.

I found this website on neurological disorders. It describes a disorder called paresthesia and one of the symptoms is itching of the arms, feet and hands. I told my doctor about it at my last visit a few weeks ago and once again she ignored me. Like I said before I think that this itching that we all are experiencing (I'm talking about those of us who have itching without hives or dry skin)is due to a nerve disorder but I can't get my doctor to give me any testing. It seems that doctors just want to prescribe antihistamines. Could everyone check this website out and see what you think? Thanks. When you click onto this site it will say page not found but just enter the word paresthesia and it will take you to the page.
