I am very glad to see that I am not alone. I took Wellbutrin (buproprion) for a month, started itching like crazy hands and feet about 5 days ago. even to the point of not being able to sleep one night. have stopped taking wellbutrin but still have some on-and-off itching bouts. am taking a wait and see attitude for the moment. I also take lipitor but was taking that for more than four months before the wellbutrin, with no problems. Important point: the MD was absolutely clueless, clueless. Thought the Wellbutrin was "jazzing" me up into hysteria or delusion or god knows what. thanks to all for your posts!

My Estranged husband,49yrs olds white, has itchy hands and feet from time to time. The Doctor says it is a form of Psoriasis and treats it with strong steroid creme and steroid pills. He says it helps. The Doctor says the flare ups are caused by stress but he doesn't think so. He has had this for the last 3yrs or so. He did take Wellibrutrin for a month, about 3 1/yrs. ago. For 4yrs he has taken high blood pressure, cholesterol, acid reflux meds.
His hands and feet itch first. Then it may get very bad and scratches, they swell. A few times its gotten so bad that after his hands and feet were so swollen and itching other parts of his body started itching and swelling as he scratched. The Doctor has increased the mg. of steroid if it didn't work. They seem somewhat sure PSORIASIS is what it is. But his skin is not flaky or cracked like Psoriasis.

» sw1angel - itchy hands and feet

I am so glad to have stumbled across this site. I have not been diagnosed with lupus, but I have been experiencing symptoms of some autoimmune disorder (my doctor believes it is Rheumatoid Arthritis) for the better part of 10 years. About two years ago, I started experiencing intense itching at night similar to what some people on this sight have described. It starts at night while I am sleeping and is most intense on the soles of my feet and on my palms and between my fingers. After a night of two with no treatment, it spreads to other parts of my body... mostly my arms and legs. When I scratch, I get raised bumps, but the go away within an hour or two of getting up in the morning. At first I thought it was some external allergen, and I tore my house apart looking for the culprit. I sent my cats to my brothers house, cleaned from top to bottom and changed my bedding constantly. It didn't help at all and I noticed that even when I travel away from home the itching occurs. Also, since it started I met my husband.... we dated for a while then got married. I would think if it were something external or contagious, he would be experiencing the same symptoms by now, but he doesn't.

I takClaritinin, which helps but is not 100% effective. Still, the other medications I have tried make me too drowsy. Anyway, while I still did not find answers on this site, I am glad to know that while these symptoms have been driving me crazy, they are not psychosomatic.

» Annie6 - Itching Palms and Feet

Found out mine was due to a reaction to a nit that lives in my area. Look around your body for a bite mark, one that is small, red, and stays around for weeks. Sometimes the itching between my fingers gets so intense, that I wring them, making them burn, swell, and turn red. Only thing that helps... cold water! Sit at the edge of a half filled tub and dangle your feet and hands up to the ankles and wrists for at least 15 minutes. It comes back daily until the bite mark finally goes away, anywhere from 1-6 weeks. The bite is really hard to find sometimes, especially if it's on the head or in a hairy area. Hope this helps someone out there.

Hi1
What did you learn about your sudden onset of itching? I awoke sunday with itching of my palms. Since then I have had frequent itching spells of my palms and between my fingers and at base of thumbs. When itching occurs, my skin appears somewhat red and splotchy, but no rash. Now I am also having itching of the ball and arch of one foot. I've tried oral benadryl and topical benadryl and hydocortisone and ice packs.
It's making me crazy, but I feel foolish going to doctor when I don't even have a rash. I am taking toprol fo high blood pressure, but am otherwise healthy. Help! I need suggestions and anwers!

I just went on the internet and keyed in itchy hands and came across this. I was so excited to read your note. I too have been complaining about itchy hands and feet the past few days. Three weeks ago I had a severe case of Fifth and they also tested me for Lupus. I'm glad to find out that I am not going crazy with my itching and that is is not in my head.

Wow, I never thought I would find someone who is going through the same itchy pain that I am!!!! Just came from the Dr. yesterday (of course the hives go away when they hear the word "Dr") and all he can tell me is it is idiopathic. Which at one time was explained to me as the "idiot doctor can't find the pathological reason for the itching". I have had itchy feet and hands for about a year and it has decided to take over my body. It comes and goes for no apparent reason and that goes for all body parts. But the feet are the worst!!!!!! I sometimes scratch so hard that I get blisters or cuts on top of my feet or I take a letter opener to the arch of my feet and my heels. It feels like the itch is just below the surface and I can't quite reach it,ya know what I mean????? I too am taking Zyrtec and experience the same tired feelings the next day. Started to take benedryl at night so I don't wake up feeling foggy. I also have eczema but Elydil seems to control that part of my misery. I just can't imagine this going on for-ever but can't seem to get any answers from the Dr's. Or, I just don't like the one I am getting! :-) I think I could write 100 pages but will spare you ALL the details. Your message just sounded so much like me that I had to respond. So sorry you feel like I do but am also glad to know I am not alone in the world of unexplained itching!!!!! Lisa

» Shijjari - Hmm.

I don't really believe I have Lupus, but I AM currently suffering from the horribly itchy hands and feet as the rest of you seem to be. But first-a little back story.

I have extreme Eczema that I keep in check now with Protopic and Zirtec-combined with plenty of TLC for my sensitive hide and this summer-My skin met with an unfortunate month.

Mainly, I went on vacation and the people I stayed with had a water filter that got contaminated with mold. So I bathed in mold for a month without realizing it. My skin was bad, head to toe eczema-and these hives on my hand. Little transparent welts that itch like a bugger, and when scratched open..just ooze clear liquid.

I come home and get to cure up with clean water, and now after a month-I'm almost healed. But now these hive-like welts have started to appear on my hands and feet. The go over the sides and top of my fingers, palm and the sides of my hand-but not the top, and drive me insane. The same goes for the feet, except I have some lingering eczema on the tops of those to add to the fun.

Now, instead of clawing my arms and eczema in my sleep-I claw these welts that are multiplying and getting slightly bigger in size...

I've put steroid cream, anti-histamine ointment and Protopic on it with no result as well.

I have nothing to truly point my finger at, my diet has stayed about the same, no new drugs added to the mix recently. Though I have been sleeping 12+ hours some days and still desire more sleep, then sleep 4 hours and get hit with insomnia-but that may be off on another tendril all it's own. o_o;

Are my hivy-welts as described by the rest? Or another odd eczema flare up to contend with?
Am I even in the right place?
