I am trying Biotin creme - seems like it's not helping. Also as my hair grows back it is drier, coarser and lighter in color! I figure this is just one of the many things I'll have to cope with as I travel the lupus/sjogren's road. I do appreciate your response! - Claudine -- posted by ClaudineH » micklady - Re: Re: Re: Any ideas for how to manage it? In response to message posted by ClaudineH:Yes I was happy just to have hair! I have been on the PLAQ for a year, and I think between the vitamins, plenty of water, good diet, and positive attitude my hair is the healthy it has been in years! Good luck and welcome to our site, I have both too! Pull up a chair and join me for a cup of tea! Talk soon! -- posted by micklady » ClaudineH - Re: Re: Re: Re: Any ideas for how to manage it? In response to message posted by micklady:I just found another hair product called NIOXIN that seems to be helping reduce the rate of hairloss. It adds a few minutes to my showering routine, but it seems to be helping. I too try to have a positive attitude and continue to lead a realatively healthy lifestyle and work full time. Thanks! - claudine -- posted by ClaudineH » HapEness - Re: Any ideas for how to manage it? Hair loss is tough but if you have just been diagnosed with lupus it might just be the stress on your body from the disease. I have been on Plaquenil for 6 years and never really had a problem with it. I know when I was first diagnosed I had major hair loss but know that once you body calms down all you hair will grow back. My best suggestion is stress makes hair loss worse, so try not to stress the small stuff. Everything will get better=0) I am a 20 year old who was diagnosed at 12 and I make it through it alright. I know how you look is important, it was to me but focus more on the big picture and all the little element will fall into place.-- posted by HapEness » micklady - Re: Re: Any ideas for how to manage it? In response to message posted by HapEness:Hello and thanks for the tip on Nioxin, now is that a cream or treatment? And did you get it in a special shop? Thanks for the tips! Hello Happy E Ness, you go girl! Just left you a note under the "headache' post! Boy I like your positive attitude! I could not agree more , that STRESS does effect our bodies! Take care and hang out here! BBL -- posted by micklady » ClaudineH - Re: Re: Re: Any ideas for how to manage it? In response to message posted by micklady:Hi!Nioxin is available through styling salons - I bought mine at an Ulta3 store -- it's a three step process -- shampoo, cream conditioner and then a scalp spray -- it retails for about $40. If you try it -- be sure to cover your neck and shoulders when you use the spray -- it can drip to your skin and leaves a temporary redness. Thanks for your support! Md/PhD program. i feel like im loosing a part of me. will it grow back. for me it stops then breaks again. then stops then breaks again all over 5 years. hellllllllp. -- posted by drdmdphd1 » MaryK3 - Can someone please help me HiI have mixed connective tissue (lupus and ra)and hav been experiencing the exact same problems. I started on 400 mg of Plaquenil about a year ago and have lost about 1/3 of my hair - I have a lot but its been psychologically the hardest part of coping w/ my disease. I also itch like a crazy woman after I get out of the shower. For the itching, try Iverest by Blistex, you can find it in any drug store in the poisin ivy aisle...I call it my miracle creme and for the hair I have been taking hair vitamins and just lowered the Plaq dose to 200 mg to see if the helps a bit. I don't want to get sicker but the side effects of the med are so tough. I also started w/ fish oil and cut out all red meat- "experts" say this helps w/ inflamation- who knows?? Hope this helps -- posted by MaryK3 » Londonchic - Can someone please help me In response to Can someone please help me posted by drdmdphd1:Did you find anything to help you Claudine? I've always had fine hair but have lost so much hair over the last 2 weeks that you can now see through it - and my legs are so itchy - once I scratch them little bumps appear - please let me know if you have anything that can help? -- posted by Londonchic » msagnes - Can someone please help me In response to Can someone please help me posted by drdmdphd1:I have MCTD and was DX about 6 yrs. ago. I have had problems with hair loss off and on. I have tried Vitamin E 1000MG doses. Also try to be aware of flourescent and/or halogen lights that may be over your head in your home or office for prolonged periods of times. These can be very damaging. You may also want to look for shampoo and conditioner with spf factors included. Avon has them I know for sure and there must be more. We must always be mindful of the effects of the sun. I try to just tell myself that I am allergic to the sun and must protect myself from it. As to the itching, I am very careful to purchase everything, scent free, color (dye) free, for sensitive skin, with spf factors included. This includes lotions, soaps, shampoo, make-up, detergent, fabric softener, etc... My oldest son was allergic to many things so I had really had to watch what he ate and things he was exposed to. In other words, I became a label reader before it was popular. I had no idea it would become so necessary for myself and my own well being. Hope this has been some help. God bless you all as we struggle and survive.
