» SusanMolthop - Just getting started

This is my first garden in this climate. I'm not really in the desert, since we get about 40" of rain a year, but it's all from November to March. April through October we get no rain and the temps soar over 100, from July through September, with very low humidity.

I'm trying to start a commercial farm, with zinnias and luffas. I also have a veggie garden, and grow herbs in containers (just until we can find time to get some ground ready). We have 23 acres, near Redding, CA., with lots of California Native Oaks.

Everyone tells me I'm crazy to garden in this climate. I want to prove them wrong. I'd love to talk to other commercial growers who face the same challenges.
