In response to message posted by themos100:This is the whole issue over Private Public Partnership (part privatisation) of the tube. Safety standards mustn't be decreased when it goes down that way as the tubes are in a pretty underfunded state at the moment. Programmes like Dispatches always tend to show the worst though. Millions of us travel on it every day and it's safer than driving! Fortunately there have been very few major accidents on the tube - the Kings Cross Fire and the crash at Moorgate are the last two in about 30 years. The only other in incidents where people have died are suicides and one person getting trapped between two carriages and thrown to his death. Despite my moans about the system they are doing a good job with safety.

In response to message posted by themos100:Don't believe everything you see on the TV. All forms of transport are inherently risky but the tube is safer than most. In fact, walking is the most dangerous form of transport so you're more likely to be killed crossing the road to the tube station than during your tube journey. If you wish to avoid all risk, try staying at home - ooops, most fatal accidents happen at home.....
