» Diane_Schuller - woodburning alternatives

May I suggest an alternate to burning wood in an urban setting? Since I'm a rural dweller, we do manage a woodlot and burn wood as a supplemental heat source. I too worry if the urban dwellers were to begin raping our forests even further to heat their homes. Why not heat with the energy efficient hot-water heating as Europeans have done for years (now that they have all but eliminated their forests)? Regardless of the method of heating, it will require a change in the 'hardware' to heat a home, but once done then we need to look at viable options. This then could be one to consider - for the most part, the water is simply recycled.

You've written another excellent article, full of thought-provoking commentary, well researched, and something of importance to all of us. Thank you!

Diane
