» riedl - no longer sleepy
I'm a mother of 3 and used to hold a professional 40+ hr a week job. That was sleep deprevation at it's 'best'. I would come home from work, get dinner, throw in a load of laundry, get the kids to do their homework, and pass out about 10pm and wake up 4:30 to do it all over again. I would live on caffeine. I look back now, and I know I was moody and difficult to live with. Then - I simplified my life. I put my family first and my carreer on hold. The expense of commuting to work, the clothes, the second car, insurance and all the other expenses for work including day care really ate up most of my paychecks. What I thought was a great paying job, really was paying only a fraction of that.
Now, I manage the home. The kids are getting more, and better sleep. The family is not so rushed. We have square meals for supper. (not that we gave up pizza for ever, just not so often)
I no longer need to drive so much (and say 'thank you, Lord, for getting me here safe - again)
Now that we really do live a simpler life, we really are a happier family.

Yes, it's nice that you could make up your mind and give up the job. I just contemplated the same idea last night trying to find a way for all of us getting along better. I thought if we spend more time together it might just help, but... But I don't think it'll work for me (personally). I've been married for a year. At the same time, I went to school and now am looking for the job and have a part-time job, it all besides my new family where we have a little daughter. But I think I can not give up any part of the life I have. It just seems complete and satisfying with all the components. I need food for my brain and feeling of social accomplishment besides clean dishes and laundry. I just went to a show, they sang a song "I want it all" from the musical Baby. It went on about how women want to have it all: children, career, fun, hobbies. and it's so true. I do want it all. A little here, and a little there.-- posted by inna1
