Hi Diana,

I'm surprised that with such a hefty price tag attached to it, the IMPAC award is seemingly less publicized. When you consider all of the talent up for grabs, award winners really do seem to be at the mercy of a roll of dice!

I just finished Atwood's latest piece of non-fiction, Negotiating with the Dead. It's a lovely smart and funny book about writing, the roles writers assume, and the roles society assigns to writers. I couldn't but it down, and now I'm torn between procrastinating by reading more Atwood of flexing my writing muscles!

The Atwood book sounds interesting, and strangely enough I haven't heard of it. That sounds like the kind of book I like.

I had a chance to meet Margaret Atwood last year (or was it the year before), she was talking about her Booker Tour and how she talkied all night to German intellectuals about Thomas Mann. She was very funny, and very kind, nicer than I expected.

Well, thanks for droppping in!
