Have you ever had a work visa in USA?

Yes, I've had a work visa, a TN, which is only for Canadians and Mexicans. Are you Canadian? If so, check out your options at Grasmick's site, which is excellent. For general information on an H1B, try the INS site, particularly the frequently asked questions section. You're right, it is difficult to get an H1B since you must have an employer sponser you and there is also a cap on them. After you've looked at some of these sites I would suggest having a consultation with an experienced immigration attourney (some lawyers will give you a free consultation) who specializes in employment immigration. Grasmick has a list of immigration lawyers. Best of luck to you.
