Hi, Debra.

An important and timely article you've written here. Thank you. I forget how lucky I am to live where I do (downtown Austin Texas) and not somewhere else (10 miles north of town). ;-)

...and how much hate there really is out there. If we forget, it's allowed to grow.

Best,
chris

» pentimento - Thank you

Debra,

As you know, this is an issue near and dear to my heart, having spent what seems like a lifetime working first on my dissertation on hate crimes and then on my book on self defense for GLBT folk and having heard the stories, seen and felt the pain. And it's not just the physical assaults that hurt. One guy I talked to laid it out clear and simple.. "It hurts. I know better. I know that they're morons. But it still hurts when they call you a fag and spit in your face."

Thanks!
