Gosh, you must have wanted to come back to Leicester sometimes! A very good article which shows that our lives rarely turn out how we expected. You've obiously made those internal adaptations which let you get on with life in what is really a very foreign country.

Thank you Tom and you're absolutely right! I think for the first two years out here, I wanted to run back to Leicester!

I did settle although it took a lot longer than I thought it would and now I love it here - especially Montana. The people are terrific and I love the space I have!

Thanks for dropping by!

I went on the "wobbly bridge" yesterday. Photo on my website http://www.xanga.com/home.asp?user=themo...

This is the new footbridge near Blackfriars which goes across to Tate Modern. When they first opened it it wobbled about but now its just reopened and didn't wobble at all (shame). Now, they ain't got anything like that in Montana!

I heard that it just reopened because they badly judged the construction initially didn't they? No we don't have a swinging bridge, probably due to all the snow we get here!

But we have lions, tigers and bears - oh my!
Well okay, maybe no tigers but certainly bears and lions. Nice website by the way Tom smile

» jerrib - We had rattlesnakes outside

in the kids' playground at school (I was a substitute teacher then) - once a four-footer. We had scorpions outside. And when we moved an hour away to the closest town we had black widow spiders everywhere. I know how you felt! Never reached anywhere dark without a flashlight!

Our lawns were sprayed with bug spray every week in the desert as they had problems with mosquitoes. We had to run and roll in the windows so we didn't get sprayed when we heard them - now that was wild! We assigned each of us to a couple of windows so we could do it fast.

We had sand and sagebrush storms that covered our duplex. Black, then whoosh, then clean up to get out!

I can relate.

Mosquitoes were my next enemy after snakes and spiders smile I am allergic to them and when I get bitten the bite swells up terrible and I end up on steroids. The mosquitos were awful at Beale too, as soon as evening came I couldn't go outside and you'd flick the light on and they'd be swarming, ugh makes me shudder!

I'd literally sit there with a fly swatter and if I spotted just one I'd have to hunt it down. Kind of pathetic huh?

Still it's hard adjusting to living on base especially when you've had your own place and space. Like you, we shouldn't really have been there because Mike was Reserve, but they activated him just as we sold our house and so had nowhere else to go. It was like being in a soap opera with all the gossip, thank goodness I can laugh about it now smile

I have a foot of snow outside here in Montana, but rather that than snakes, spiders and mosquitoes.
Thanks for dropping by!
