cheap bobbins

» mrv56266 - bobbin lace I demonstrate knueppleing a lot, and so many people want to learn how, but are held back by the price of starting out. I teach them how to make the pillows, and am able to get everything done pretty reasonable. The problem is, I use the German covered bobbins, which are beautiful, but are running about $5.00 a bobbin. I would like to make a cheaper bobbin. I know it won't have the covers on, but I think they can still learn how to make lace with a different type bobbin. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can use. My husband has a small lathe, but does not have time to make any for me, so i am relying on my own talents. I have heard some can be made out of clothespins, small dowels and beads, but am uncertain how to start. Any suggestions?-- posted by mrv56266 » victoria56 - Re: bobbin lace In response to bobbin lace posted by mrv56266:This is an old request - Aug 2002! If you're still looking for authentic wood bobbins, I know about them and where they are available in India. In fact, I'm in the process of working on a project involving bobbin lace and would like to increase the number of bobbins we will make, so if you'd like to participate please reply. -- posted by victoria56
