» Anachan - Thread questions

I am still a beginner at bobbin lace and rely heavily on the books I've bought. The trouble is I can rarely, if ever, find the exact threads the authors use for each project, and I do not know what threads can be substituted.

How can I tell if a thread I see available on-line is a size similar to the threads specified in my books? And if I cannot find the exact size specified (or in the same number of plys), what kinds of substitutions can I make to be able to use the pricking patterns provided in the books?

In response to message posted by Anachan:

Thread charts are somtimes available at thread distributors. Holly VanScriver has a chart for sale with a large number of conversions.
