Kitchen Lighting

» Berkwits - Lighting design We are about to embark on a kitchen redesign. The cabinets order is in and the appliances have been ordered. The last detail is lighting. I have spent a fair amount of time researching this subject and I am coming up with some conflicting information. One recent web article quotes a kitchen designer stating that the task lighting should be halogen incandescent and should never be placed directly over ones head, but illuminate the work surface. Later in the article the same designer states that hot incandescent lighting should not be used over shiny counter surfaces because of glare. The kitchen has a peninsula design and we are going to have granite counters. The beauty of the stone would be completely lost with a honed (rather than polished) surface. So now I am betwixt and between. I had assumed that we would use ceiling mounted low voltage halogen MR16 fixtures over the work areas (sink, counters.) Undercabinet halogen lighting will be used on the wall cabinets.Any wisdom would be appreciated. -- posted by Berkwits
