In response to message posted by MyGrammie:I am glad your granddaughter enjoys gardening! It is such a fun experience to share with kids. My daughter just loves it. I am sure with time she'll learn to leave the blossoms, but I treasure her excitement in picking them too and the little kisses I get as well! :-)

In response to message posted by Juju57:It sure is healthier than the TV! And I think it also teaches a healthy respect for living things. When I taught in an inner city school, there were so many kids who did not respect anything living (plant, person, animal). I wish that more kids were given opportunities to be gardeners! I think there would be a lot less tragedies. I always did a "farm" unit with my Early Childhood Sp Ed kids where we would plant a flat of something fast growing and the kids always loved it.

» Red - building memories...
Linda, what a great experience for your children. They are learning responsibility, seeing the effects of their decisions and building lovely memories. This is a perfect article for the "Gardens of Childhood" category in the 2nd Annual Childhood Memories Event. I would be so happy if you would consider submitting it.
