» Margaret_Stout - Craft Tips when working with Kids

As a bonus to readers, I would like to create a page full of craft tips when working with kids. What's your best craft tip or tips? Or, what crafting disaster have you experienced and what tips would have made it work better?

Hi Margaret,

Great topic!!!

One of my favorite tips is to have plenty of scrap paper on, under, and around the work area.
AND to have the kids wear old-who-cares-what-I-spill clothes. If you are prepared that way then craft time is a LOT less stressful...then they can be messy as they need to be without the worry of ruining anything.

» Margaret_Stout - Sharpening Craft Scissors

To sharpen scissors that have the special edges try wax paper first, if they are still dull, then try aluminum foil. If they still need sharpening, then try very fine sand paper. The best thing to due is to just cut the paper, foil, or sand paper a couple of this with the scissors.

» Margaret_Stout - Cutting Styrofoam

Rub the edges of a knife with a candle, a couple of times before cutting the styrofoam, it goes a lot easier.

» Ognyen - Try and Try Again

The hardest part of most any craft is to try it for the first time. My biggest craft tips are "Try and Try" then, "Practice and Practice."

Those hobby knives can be sharpened nicely on a 400 or finer grit sandpaper. Very fine sandpapers can be found in automotive departments in their body-work areas.
