They are running on the Canadian History channel right now. I have always found it hard to believe that any woman would be stupid enough to marry Henry after the way he treated his previous wives, just like I find it difficult to believe that anyone would marry a man who cheated on his previous wife. Abusers don't change. They just get worse as they get more experienced. -- posted by biogardener » thebattwoman - Re: at least In response to message posted by biogardener:Unfortunately Traute they had little choice. If they loved someone else that someone else would miraculously disappear out of the immediate environment. To say no to Henry just wasn't done without fear of retribution to the lady in question and her family. Anne Boleyn was perhaps the only one that resisted the king's wishes, although even she was smart enough not to refuse him outright, rather she played cat & mouse with him, determined to be his queen rather than his mistress. Henry in Tudor England was the be all and end all, what the king said went and what he wanted he got. Either way, any female that he desired faced a Hobson's choice and couldn't win no matter what she did. -- posted by thebattwoman » biogardener - Good Movie There is a good movie made about Anne Boleyn. If I remember it correctly, it shows her mainly in a positive light, ignoring her intrigue, "Anne of a Thousand Days." Anne is portayed by the French-Canadian actress Genevieve Bujold. That was a good choice for a French-English bilingual character actress who would be able to speak English with a French accent. I had Bujold in "Kamouraska," probably the most gripping drama ever filmed in Canada. Both movies are must-sees, but 99% of Kamouraska is in French. I imagine that there is a subtitled version available for people who don't understand French.-- posted by biogardener
