» Red - houses...

Jo,

This is a terrific article. I enjoyed it and it is a good idea for kids to ask their parents and grandparents how the houses today differ from the ones they grew up in.

As a child I lived in a rural community next door to my grandmother. She had no electricity or modern conveniences. She used coal oil lamps and gas lanterns for light. She had a wooden washing machine and it was my job to pull the handle to wash the clothes. She had a woodstove, an ice box and a gingerbread clock, which she kept going by winding it with a key each day.

The house that Grandma lived in was much the same as the double story brick home I live in today. However, no electricity or modern conveniences also made it much different.

Keep up the good work. This was a terrific article.

Mary
