» Red - toys from the past...

Beth,

This article is both interesting and informative. I've talked to my grandsons about the toys I used to play with. They can't imagine not having tv, vcrs, game cubes and all the other electronic gadgets. When we had blackouts here last fall, they didn't know what to do with themselves. They phoned me to see if I had electricity. When I told them no, they complained of being bored. I told them to read, play board games, draw, color and use their imagination. Imagine! They lived through it. smile

Brandon, the oldest, told me that now he knew what it was like to be a kid when I grew up. I got a kick out of that.

Yes amazing isn't it? I was always outdoors weather permitting, now I have to kick my kids outdoors smile When I was a child we had electricity black outs as they went on strike. I loved it, as I lived in a city and it was so different all dark. I can still recall the smell of the paraffin lamps my Mum used for light, I loved them!

Beth,

Grandma didn't have electricity in her house until I was about 12. She used oil lamps and a lantern hung over the table. I loved her kitchen. Today, when I use my oil lamp, I think back to those days. She had an ice box, a gingerbread clock and an old wood stove that made the best food I've ever tasted.

Kids today just don't seem to want to play outside. The boys would rather sit in front of the tv or game cube. When I watch them, we have an outdoor time each morning. We also have reading time and creative time. It's good for them.

I got an article for you on the same subject. I wrote it for Kirk Johnson's Toys event, and it reviews the top-rated toys of the 20th century with some thoughts of my own thrown in:
