When Karaoke Singers AttackRead the article this discussion is about

» dancooper - Singing while Rome burns Hi Hilary,I couldn’t resist dropping by to have a look at your most recent article, and I am glad I did. Reading it, I couldn’t help thinking about you there in the bar. It reminded me a little of the film, Gimme Shelter, about the Rolling Stones tour, and the episode where they kept playing despite the chaos that was erupting all around them. It must have been quite ...uh ...exhilarating for you. I tried Karaoke once, and got through Elton John’s Rocket Man without too much embarrassment. Last year I was all primed for an open mic night at a local pub, but plans fell through at the last moment. Otherwise I was going to sing what for me was a poignantly timely rendition of Neil Young’s Old Man. Never got to do it. It would have been fun, though. I've never seen Gimme Shelter, but the scene always reminded me of something out of Airplane or Naked Gun, when the foreground characters are having a serious conversation, and there's chaos going on in the background that they don't even notice. I love "Rocket Man." I'm sure you did a great job! Open mic nights are a bit more intimidating for me--I have to remember the words! LOL I have participated in a few where I got to sing with a live band, though, and the feeling was exhilarating! Again, thanks for dropping in. Hope you return ... and keep singing! -- posted by hilside
