Janette,

I came across a discussion you posted to and just had to check out your Kansas History! I moved to Kansas a little over 2 years ago, and as a historical novelist, I enjoy researching history. In this case, Kansas since I'm working on a novel set in the 1930s that takes place in western Kansas during the Dust Bowl. I'm looking forward to reading your articles and checking out your links.

Welcome to Suite101!

The drought in the 1930s was horrible. After reading about it, I'm glad I wasn't born then!

The KU press has some books that you'd find helpful in researching your novel. Good luck and have fun. I love researching history.

I'll stick with Washington weather, but I did find this interesting. I am always amazed when I read about the things our pioneers endured. Imagine today if we had to live in their conditions.

Very vivid writing.

I'm with you, Jerri! Facing tornadoes in this day and age is vastly different than what our forebears endured. We are very lucky to have warning systems in place and usually know well before a storm is going to strike. Also, today we know (through history) the damage these storms can wreck.

Thanks for stopping by! I really enjoyed your Lady of the Lake article. Well done!
