» SusanJ_3 - Welcome to Suite101 Hi Jeni! Welcome to Suite 101. I was diagnosed a year ago with Type 1 diabetes, although I was 23 years old at the time. I take a minimum of 5 insulin shots a day, so I know what your family is going through. I'm terribly sorry to hear about your mother's death, I imagine you were very close to her and this has been very hard for you and my deepest sympathy goes out to you. As for your blood sugars being harder to control, part of it may be due to the stress you've experienced at your still recent loss. I hope that you have a doctor or diabetes nurse educator that is working with you and understands what you've been through and can help you get things to where they are a little more manageable. I hope you find the strength to come out of the shell that you've described...you sound like a kind, caring person and with your years of living with diabetes, I'm sure there are many people that could learn from you. In the next day or so I will be putting up an article about the emotional support that is a necessity for people with diabetes and their families. I must give you full credit for the inspiration behind it I don't know if there is anyone with diabetes that lives in you area that visits this area, but maybe someone that reads the message boards that lives in you area Canada will respond personally to you. Regardless, you are very welcome here and I hope that you will become a regular visitor and poster to the site. -- posted by a_wind_of_change
