Hi Lianne,

Thank you for your sobering article. It's easy to forget, since the tragedy happened on American soil, that people of all ethnicities have been killed or have lost love ones--even people of Middle Eastern descent who are being unfairly and ignorantly targeted in the aftermath.

I was at a concert last evening where the performer took time out to announce that he hoped some good would result from this senseless tragedy, for otherwise, all of the lives lost have been lost in vain. It's hard to imagine that any possible goodness warrants such tragedy.

I hope that today's youth, who worship actors and athletes as heroes, recognize that true heroism is not defined by good looks or money or skill on the playing field but is defined by the selfless actions of all of the rescue workers and the actions of the flight passengers who attempted to divert the terrorists' plans, crashing the final fated plane into the woods rather than into its intended public target.

Thank you for your post, Pamela, and you're welcome. SO many people from so many countries have died in this. This terrorist plan seems to have backfired in a way, for they've not only stepped on American toes, but on the toes of the rest of the world.

Yes, let us hope some good will come from this. I think it already has. The unity we see, at least for now, in America and in the world is a good thing. We can only hope this can be a stepping stone toward world peace.

Hi Lianne,

You made an excellent point. It occurred to me too and I used the same words -- this may have backfired on the terrorists. As you said, they not only attacked America, they attacked many other countries. They have brought all of us together in our loss and grief. They have escalated their "war" on the world and that was a big mistake.

How do we go on? Like other victims of terrorism around the world, we mourn and then we just do carry on because to not carry on is to let the terrorists win.

Thank you for your post, Tina. And for your words of wisdom. You are right. We do need to move on and show that these people who died did not die in vain. Although they had no choice in their deaths, their lives were plucked from them in a horrible and cowardly way, they still died for the cause of freedom and democracy. We must keep on and maintain our way of life, fix what might be wrong, fight for it if we must, and honor the memory of those who died.
