My good friend Allan (Al) Gust, aka Whirlwind, died last night. We met on Silicon Investor in 1997. He went in for a lung transplant and one of his friends posted an address to send "best wishes" so I sent a short note wishing him a speedy recovery. Funny how small things lead to great friendships. Every now and then I'd get a postcard from some strange place Al was visiting in his many travels with a note saying I should try windsurfing at this beach.

Just before he passed, Al sent me a final goodbye email with one last "tip". Here is a part of it:

I think I have given you enough penny stock tips! I just picked up some shares of bell resources at .06 a share.

I should have taken that tip! It looks like he is up 50% already!!!

I turned Al's "penny stock tips" into an article so he'd have something to laugh about at the end as well as be immortalized in print.

Al, you will be missed.
