"...The result is that the Solomon Islands, Uganda and Samoa may compete for the contracts, but China, whose premier just left the White House with promises of an expanded trade relationship, is excluded, along with Israel... "We could have put together a policy that said, `The more you help, the more contracts you may be able to gain.' " Instead, the official said, "we found a new way to alienate them."
The Potted Plant in Chief still embarrassing us overseas. -- posted by ACousins » Fred2000 - Enough is enough.... .Congress pushes for larger military By Tom Squitieri, USA TODAY WASHINGTON — Members of Congress from both parties are pushing for the first significant increase in the size of the active-duty military in 16 years, despite resistance from the Pentagon. Call-ups of part-time troops from the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve to fill the ranks in Iraq have intensified the bipartisan sentiment that the Pentagon doesn't have enough troops to fight an extended war on terrorism while keeping enough well-rested, well-trained troops ready for an emergency. "Momentum is building in Congress for" an increase, says Harald Stavenas, a spokesman for Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. "Finally, everyone has come around to see enough is enough." -- posted by Fred2000 » ACousins - Even Thanksgiving is a political photo-op...duh In response to message posted by Fred2000:It's amazing to see ads recuiting for the Reserves. They're still touting all the benefits plus a weekend a month or whatever it is. No mention of foreign hazardous duty where yesterday even a journalist had his hand blown off when someone threw a grenade into his Humvee. ===================hand picking troops for Shrubbery Turkey photo-op. Some troops ended up eating MREs on Thanksgiving because of his shennanigans. Disgraceful. http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn... "...When last we checked in on Stripes, it was reporting on a survey it did of troops in Iraq, finding that half of those questioned described their units' moral as low and their training as insufficient and said they did not plan to reenlist.... The soldiers who dined while the president visited were selected by their chain of command, and were notified a short time before the visit."... "chose to complain amongst themselves and eat MREs, even after the chow hall was reopened for 'usual business' at 9 p.m... air traffic controllers in Britain are seething over the flight, in which the president's 747, falsely identified as a Gulfstream, traveled through British airspace. Prospect, the controllers union in the United Kingdom, says the flight broke international regulations, posed a potential safety threat and exposed a weakness in the air defense system that could be exploited by terrorists.... And the "wake vortex" of a 747, much larger than a Gulfstream's, could jeopardize smaller planes that were told by unsuspecting controllers to follow in the mislabeled plane's wake..." ============ For a self-serving campaign photo-op, Shrubbery placed other people into jeopardy. Heck, they're even lying to the Brits. -- posted by ACousins » ACousins - Shrub to Cheney to HAL: pay it back you thieves...more or less http://highmarkfunds.stockpoint.com/high... "President Bush said Friday the United States will expect Vice President Dick Cheney's former company to pay back money that it is suspected of overcharging the government on contract work in Iraq. "If there's an overcharge, like we think there is, we expect that money be repaid," the president told reporters...." ---- Just on the oil it's about $60 million but that has to be the tip of the iceberg. Bridge building by thieving welfare companies is costing us 10x's what Iraqi contractors can do it for. The Thief-In-Chief mumbles: "We cannot let terrorists and rogue nations hold this nation hostile." -- posted by ACousins » ACousins - More nefarious dealings from right-wing extremists In response to message posted by Fred2000:Why does Baker have to beg other countries (those which we insulted again and again and, oh yes, again) for debt relief for Iraq? According to Wolfowitz, money would not be a problem when we invaded Iraq.....Ooops, guess oil revenues were never going to cover even the interest on the debt to foreign countries. "...Despite those findings, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul D. Wolfowitz told Congress during the war that "we are dealing with a country that can really finance its own reconstruction, and relatively soon." Moreover, Vice President Dick Cheney said in April, on the day Baghdad fell, that Iraq's oil production could hit 3 million barrels a day by the end of the year, even though the task force had determined that Iraq was generating less than 2.4 million barrels a day before the war...." http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/... I believe Cheney is actually right and that Iraq is generating 3 million bbls/day when someone isn't blowing up a pipeline. Why, then, does Iraq require debt relief from the citizenry of other nations? It's a puzzle....maybe it has something to do with the Thief-in-Chief's oil company connections....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
"...Yet as it stands right now, Mr. Baker is far too tangled in a matrix of lucrative private business relationships that leave him looking like a potentially interested party in any debt-restructuring formula. The obvious solution is for him to sever his ties to all firms doing work directly or indirectly related to Iraq.... If the administration needs a political reason for doing the right thing, it need only look at the deep suspicion raised about the Iraqi construction contracts doled out to Halliburton, a company that was run by Dick Cheney before he became vice president.

Instead, the venture has turned sour — and many insiders see Mr. Baker's mission as part of an effort by veterans of the first Bush administration to extricate George W. Bush from the hard-liners' clutches. If the mission collapses amid acrimony over contracts, that's a good thing from the hard-liners' point of view. ...In the end the Bush doctrine — based on delusions of grandeur about America's ability to dominate the world through force — will collapse. What we've just learned is how hard and dirty the doctrine's proponents will fight against the inevitable. " ========= Honestly, this is what happens when the PPIC is weak. Everyone has him in their clutches. -- posted by ACousins » F111Star - Three stooges of Europe So the three stooges of Europe (France, Germany, and Russia) were stupid enough to "lend" Saddam $120 billion. Why should the new Iraqi government honor any debt racked up by its former oppressor, particularly when most of the money was used to acquire items far beyond the UN's approved list of essential food and medicine?-- posted by F111Star » Fred2000 - Re: More nefarious dealings from right-wing extremists In response to message posted by ACousins:"Vice President Dick Cheney said in April, on the day Baghdad fell, that Iraq's oil production could hit 3 million barrels a day by the end of the year, even though the task force had determined that Iraq was generating less than 2.4 million barrels a day before the war...." AC... Receent information indicates that there are some serious problems wih the wells. It seems that due to neglect, the wells are losing pressure and the cost to make the necessary repairs are extremely high. Thus, some of the wells may very well have to discontinue operations especially if they are operationg at higher outputs now. It's a delicate balance to keep them producing. Naturally, they are hoping that the high expenditures can be delayed or we will be shelling out more money to bring them up to par, if that is even possible. -- posted by Fred2000 » ACousins - Re: Re: More nefarious dealings from right-wing extremists In response to message posted by Fred2000:Is the US taxpayer responsible for fixing and upgrading Iraqi oil production which will then profit big oil?
