» Will_L - We can't count those QQQs, :)

I always smile when I see the shills claim that the QQQs couldn't be included in Brinker's performance because they are not a "mutual fund"

CBS marketwatch has an article on "Mightiest mutuals merely mortal" " Most widely held funds crushed in Q2 downdraft"

It goes on to talk about a number of the bigger funds and yes you guessed it "the nasdaq 100". It doesn't seem that they make the big differentiation that Brinker's apologists do. What a bogus bunch of bull. We know that exchange traded Spys are fine to count in his performance--but not one of the biggest FUNDS the QQQs. The fund that he placed the biggest bet of his career and did the most damage with. Here's what marketwatch said about them.

Two exchange-traded funds rank among the industry's biggest, including the $21 billion Nasdaq 100 Trust (QQQ: news, chart) -- down a heart-thumping 30 percent quarter to date. Investors saddled in this, one of the hottest funds -- both in sales and performance -- of the go-go bull market, lost a cumulative 53 percent over the three-year period. The fund has skidded 78 percent since the Nasdaq hit a high on March 10, 2000......."

OK, David. That partially explains why you only post in support of the bashers.

David K also said: "Other times, I post like anyone else because I too, have an opinion on Brinker."

David, obviously, you have every right to post your opinions. What IS your opinion of Brinker? How does it differ from the opinions of Will L. and A. Cousins? Or does it differ from theirs?

AC, I never said EVERYONE was bullish. Overall sentiment, however, was very bullish. For proof, all you have to do is go to your local library and ask for a Barrons from Jan. 2000. Then check the Investors Intelligence survey. You will find that bullish sentiment was quite high.

AC, for once I agree with you!! It IS amazing the risks that filthy rich people will take to make a little more money!

However, put yourself in Martha Stewart's shoes and ask yourself what YOU would do in her case:

You have a small percentage of your portfolio in a stock. The CEO of that company calls you and says: "Sell, the stock is going to crash."

Would you say, "No, I'll hold and take the loss." Or, would you sell?

I imagine this stuff goes on all the time. I doubt if it ever crossed Martha Stewart's mind that this would become public. Personally, I think anybody else in her position would have done the same thing she did.

That doesn't make it right. The greed factor IS a bit nauseating. But I think almost anybody else in her place would have done exactly the same thing.

I think the Tyco guy who went to extremes to avoid paying sales taxes is much worse. The Enron people are also much worse.

alpha, the inflation protected securities fund at Vanguard is doing awfully well, even though there is no inflation. I think it's about as safe as you are going to get. You might want to look into that one.

(Just don't pull an AC and blame ME if it turns out to be a bad investment)! -smile

jonathon, why are you still holding the QQQs? You call them "high tech crap stocks!" Why would ANYONE hold stocks that he thinks are crap?

You don't like or respect Brinker, so why are you STILL following his advice?
I respect him, and I sold the QQQs a long time ago!

Jonathon, get out of the QQQs!!! You are right. They are no good. The PE's are STILL sky high! Sell them!

Brinker IS right. You can't just sell them now and go to cash. Sell them and put them in a good tech mutual fund. Or put them in good tech stocks like Intel. Maybe even some biotechs like Amgen. Do a little research. Put some in a few stocks and some in a good tech fund.

Don't just sit there and wait for Brinker to bail you out. Do something except complaining about Brinker.

Then check the Investors Intelligence survey.

Sentiment indicators were bullish. The problem with this particular indicator is that it is a CONTRA indicator. Which means, practically everyone in the financial industry knows that extremes means the move up is likely over and a move down is likely.

People who were buying then were the stragglers who had to be convinced that the party was on. Note that Hulbert uses his newsletters as contrary indicators AND those are the pros!

In response to message posted by alphacd:

alphacd said: "I realize that overall PEs are still high...but has (BB) indicated what other factors he is considering in making the call?"

alphacd, Bob is concerned about earnings, and he has stated frequently that he believes consensus earnings estimates are way too high. On Sunday's show he indicated that is the main reason stocks are going down--not the lack of trust nor the threat of terrorists so much as many investors being concerned about future earnings.

HUH? Who are you Bobette? Have you seen what Intel is doing lately?

I have no idea about Amgen:

Are you declaring a Dija Counter Trend Rally in these shares or are you declaring a bottom before Bob does or are you suggesting a longterm buy and hold for eventual price recovery?
