In response to message posted by Rande: So,If a guy on 12/31/99 went short DIA, SPY, QQQ and long MDY he would have made out all right. I'll remember that next time.

In response to message posted by Rande:

Thanks for posting Rande (and for charts Jen). Rande, my calculation is that the Wilshire 5000 Index Fund closed up 19.28% from its lows of September 21st. You have 19.7%. I was using closing number of 9.03 for the Wilshire 5000 Fund on Friday (and Monday) versus 7.57 on September 21st. Were you looking at the Index, or did one of us make a typo? Thanks.

Nice charts. Helps to make sense of the low pe vs high pe debate coming out of a bottom.

4-5% returns over 10 years.

So, does this mean that the ideal setup for another big stock market rise (er bubble?) is a period of stagflation?

More people will declare bankruptcy this year than will graduate from college.

Maybe someone can point out a practical application for that bit of info.

In response to message posted by David_Korn:

David,

I'm using the Vanguard fund (VTSMX) to measure. The closing price on 9/21 was 21.4. The closing price on 11/23 was 25.54. In between, the fund's NAV was reduced by a .073/share distribution which should be added back. (P.S. Looks like the distribution was payable on 9/28, but might have gone "ex" on 9/21. Will have to double check.)

In response to message posted by lcha:

Well, that obviously means that we should invest less in colleges and more in bankruptcy courts. You know, demand and supply and all that.
