Thanks, Rande for all your help. God only knows how much money you've earned for all of us, and how many disasters you've allowed us to sidestep.

» DennisL - Roth IRA Contribution Question

Good day, Rande. Time for my first question on the 10,000+ thread.

I am certain that in 2002, my AGI will fall somewhere in the range of $95K - $110K, so that the maximum contribution that I will be allowed to make to my Roth IRA will be reduced (filing as a single person). The problem is, I don't know EXACTLY what my AGI will be due to the variability of investment income.

Financial advisors have always preached to make your IRA contribution on the first business day of each new year in order to get the money working for you as soon as possible. If I do that, though, without knowing ahead of time what my AGI will be, don't I run the risk of over-contributing, thereby leading to a penalty later on down the road? For that reason, should I wait until January 2003 to make my contribution for 2002, since I will at that time know exactly how much I will be allowed to contribute?

As always, TIA, big guy.

» Rande - Re: Roth IRA Contribution Question

In response to message posted by DennisL:

Dennis,

There's a process to reverse a contribution without penalty prior to the due date of the return. Ideally, it's nicer to get the money working sooner rather than later, but given the amount in question relative to the hassle of reversing the process I'd just wait to be sure the contribution is allowable before making it.

Rande, Thank you for all your efforts here on our behalf. I feel that I am a pretty good judge of character. It is my opinion you have integrity beyond reproach. I can really tell you have a passion for what you do. We are all better off having interacted with you. Thanks for making a difference in my life and that of my family. I can not wait to read AR 20,000.

Once again, many thanks to all. Steve, "making a difference" for the better is as much as anyone could ask for. Thanks.

Now, let's get back to it....

» Q_out - Congrats

Congratulations on this 10,000 milestone here on Suite 101. Of course that doesn't even count all of your contributions to the discussions on other threads.

I thought I'd see how many times your name was cited over on the other site, but they all seem to have disappeared. smile

» TonyFromGlendale - CONGRATULATIONS

Here in Glendale the auction is about to be held for spots to ride in the Rose Parade on the City float...How about if we get you a spot, and you wear a sash that says "10,000 plus posts on Suite 101" to get the site a little notice. Now the only down side is that you have to get up about 2 in the a.m. to get on the float, and you will probably freeze your butt off during the ride, but you'll get to toast the New Year's Bull with some pretty rose-princess-types...Sincere Congratulations from Glendale. (Next door to Pasadena, Burbank, and Hollywood.)
