In response to message posted by shallam:

If that's a failure give me about 20 of em

I think you're replying to my post. I didn't call it a failure, I just said it wasn't great. I said it was ok. I do think it needs to be evaluated on the basis of recent developments.

If we were having this discussion this time last year, I would have felt differently. MSFT was up over 100. However, you have to consider the recent plunge to 40.

The dot coms were also "great" calls last year as well. Many people made tons of money on them. Those who sold them before the crash made "great" calls (tax consequences or not). Those who are still holding the exact same stocks made not so "great" calls.

That's all. In trying to measure just how good a stock, trade, mutual fund, etc. adviser BB is, you have to look at all the data. Otherwise, what's the point? Just because someone likes a call he made 5 years ago doesn't give him a pass on more recent ones.

All the data goes into the pot. That's the only way to evaluate how earnestly or how lightly to take his advice now and in the future.

» RamblinMan - Kirk & Jerry Springer

Maybe what Kirk is saying is, he no longer wants this thread to be an open and honest discussion of Bob's investment ideas. He wants to degenerate this thread to a Jerry Springer format where people just rant and rave in hopes that this will improve his ratings and you will click on the stupid sponsers who support this ridiculous site.

Author: shallam Date: Jan 13, 2001 Subject: msft Message: I don't have the number at my fingertips, but I believe that BB called msft as a buy very early on and hit a home run. It went up about as much as you can hope for. If that's a failure give me about 20 of em.

Well, maybe it's too early to call. After all, didn't Xerox go up from a cheap stock, reach amazing levels, then fall again to a very low level? Seems to me, that whether it is a great call depends on the average annual rate of return from the buy to the sell point. Bob may have called a good buy point, but it isn't HIS good call if someone sold at the peak and made a bundle. Bob hasn't called a sell yet. It has only gone down by about 2/3. So whether it is HIS great call depends on when he sells. It will probably recover at some time, but for now his timing doesn't look too hot.

You deleted one of my posts? Give me a hint. Which one was it? Also, I defended Rande until the end. And even then some. His banishment on the Bob Brinker website was a great loss to us all. So there!

In response to message posted by RamblinMan:

Are you drunk already?

If you hate the site so much, then why the obsession to post here?

I like Rande's challenge. Post some good stuff about Brinker that is truthful rather than the garbage you have belted out so far. If you can't do that, then try AA.

In response to message posted by RamblinMan:

I'll change it back when I see the community makes it known that personal attacks on Rande and myself are not acceptable. A few here have posted impressive replies in our defense and I am grateful. Of course, they would be considered "bashers" by those sitting on their hands.

I had to waste far too much time last week defending us against garbage posts. I did that in an effort to not ban people, but to keep the site open. Management wanted me to just ban the troublemakers but I think we can build a community that is self policing and should not need me here 24x7 to watch it.

The title will switch back when I think people here have earned it. Consider it a "time out" for childish behavior.

Maybe those that sat on their hands and allowed personal attacks to go unanswered but have no problem calling us bashers for posting facts can think about it for a few weeks and grow from it?

Now it is time to head off for some fun tonight.
