I admire your honesty, but not your "dirty tricks", especially if you actually did cause the Brinker site to become a closed site. That's to the detriment of a lot of innocent folks there who could certainly profit from the objective opinions of non-subscriber's posts.
Where's the joy in that?

No excuses. I worked for a contractor who sold electronics and software to all the three-letter-agencies of the government. Most of the stuff was classified. (Like Nokia cell phones modified to perform "other functions".)

I have first hand knowledge of the kind of invasion of privacy our government engages in. You just would not believe the capability the NSA has. I eventually resigned in disgust, because I just couldn't do it any more and look in the mirror when shaving.

I have a real "thing" about internet privacy, including websites run by Nazi's. If I really wanted to crush Brinker, I would simply mount a denial of service attack. It's easy, and fairly easy to avoid detection, but it is a felony.

» Will_L - Waiting for Moabo

The folks who signed on with Brinker for his promise to deliver them to the land of Moabo, had to be a little concerned this weekend. Though I firmly think moabo is just more mumbojumbo to sell newsletters, I never dreamed that he would start lowering expectations quite so soon.

The caller who started out by saying that Moabo would by definition be a greater buying opportunity than 98 in which the broad index was down 20 percent or so. Brinker jumped on him like white on rice, saying "I didn't say that" and when the guy as David chronicled in his usually fine summary "But you implied that " Brinker shut him off again and said he did no such thing. Then the caller said but Bob "The Mother of All buying opportunities" would imply that it was one of the the greatest if not the greatest of all time. Bob put him down again saying "not neccessarily and went to a commercial.

Now many of the sheep have wisely chosen not to jump into the QQQ trades in the rather unconventional manner they have been offered. But they were quite content to wait for his promised mother of all buying opportunities. What he just told them I think is that either A) I was just blowing smoke--- or B) I don't expect it to be all that great a buying opportunity.

Remember the broad index was down right at 20 percent in 98 and Brinker's model had not predicted that sell off but the fact he stayed in the market --calling a gift horse buying opportunity about half way through the decline served those listening well. But keep in mind it wasn't enough to show up on his models to exit the market and get back in. And now he told the caller that MOABO may not be a better buying opportunity than 98.

Looks to me that the call may be going toward the B standing for "Bogus" rather than "Buying".

He is hyping his QQQ trades as being 40 to 50 percent runs--yet Moabo he is downplaying.

He is talking about 17 year secular bear market possibilities, yet picking a time frame that he seems certain of for "moabo" .

He is nothing if not inconsistant!!!

Very interesting, Deep Throat. I certainly understand your disgust with the heavy handed censorship and control at the Brinker site. I have come to share those feelings when the "iron curtain" there slammed shut a while back.

But now all those poor folks are trapped there, and all communications with the "outside world" have been effectively severed (we are not allowed to exchange email addresses, as then we would be able to compare ideas without running them through the censors).

Another guy and I had several posts zapped yesterday morning when I challenged his view that the ban on email addresses was just a "suggestion". So he posted his email address and all of our posts leading up to and including that one were soon "vapor".

This address ban was put in place on the pretext that it was to "protect us from spammers". This "protection" is NOT optional, obviously! Sort of like the "protection" sold to small shopkeepers by the mobs in the 20's. Refuse it, and ZAPPO!

Excellent analogy. Just think of it, Bobcat is attempting to resusitate mob shakedowns of his subscribers over the internet. If he doesn't, it might affect his cash flow; just like the mob!

» Mark_J - recession

I think a recession could be more likely, because it's becoming obvious that Greenspan missed the runway on the soft-landing. Plus, getting a tax cut by Congress could be next to impossible for Bush. Greenspan will have to do it all himself, and those rate cuts will take 12-15 months to work their way into the economy, just like the rate hikes took that long to start showing up.

The market may be in the process of pricing in a recession. Companies are laying off or having hiring freezes. Real estate and car sales are slowing dramatically. And yes, this could take 12-15 months to fix from the first rate cuts.

Of course, should the Fed cut rates this month or next month, then there could be a brief and extreme bounce up, as folks think it's over. But the earnings warnings will continue for the next several quarters...

» DeepThroat - More Spook Stuff

Dan, thanks for the info about the BB site. I didn't know that:
1: It is verboten to exchange email addresses. What a crock!
2. They are still zapping postings.

Naturally, most government agencies - strike that - all government agencies are interested in gathering data by covert means. The grandaddy, of course, is the NSA which a few years ago stood for "No Such Agency", but which now has its own website:
http://www.fas.org/irp/nsa/

The very existence of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO)was classified a few years ago. They are the guys who run our spy satellite programs:
http://www.nro.gov/

However, not all intelligence is aimed at data gathering. Almost unknown except in spook circles is that the CIA (and others) engage in something euphemistically called "Information Operations", or I/O. This is (ostensibly) targeted at foreign countries, and has to do with disruption or alteration of normal communications traffic.

I/O can range from complete denial of service for a major communications trunk, to just doing something to reduce bandwidth on a trunk, to actually injecting "disinformation" packets on a trunk.

A guy from the FBI (or others) can sit in his office in Washington, (or Alexandria, or Ft. Meade, or, or, or...) and monitor your voice and data traffic. All he need to know is your phone number. He has the software he needs to decode faxes, unpack zipped files, view web pages, or whatever.

But DeepThroat, you say, don't they need a court order? Only if they plan to use the data they collect in a courtroom!

Also, don't ever assume that the website you visit or the company you do business with are safe. Many legitimate businesses are run by the gov for the purpose of gathering information.

Big Brother is here, my man. Even companies like IBM play ball with the gov, even though they claim the "Lotus Notes" back door was already in place when they bought Lotus. BTW, Lotus notes has been the application of choice for the NSA for some years.

Even AT&T is not immune. When they spun off Lucent they were happy to dump most of their fiber optic spook stuff onto Lucent, because they were paranoid about their foreign customers knowing they play ball with the CIA.
