» Slick - Next week...

sounds like an all star line-up, with Lazlo ( the perennial stock picker winner) Michael Holland who is always optimistic on the market, and everyones favorite Marty Zweig, who's facial expressions tell it all and is ALWAYS worried about the market. Great Fun. Thanks, as always Steve, for your recap.

» SteveT - Another week has rolled around and it is time to hear the latest

Another week has rolled around and it is time to hear the latest comments from Lou. This week a satirical view of the markets and the story in the news about stock market manipulation from organized crime.

Panelist Marty Zweig thinks the markets will drift higher and likes the NASDAQ and stocks with good growth. Lasslo Birinyi sees normal 8-10% gains in the markets over the next year. He does think the high positive sentiment is of concern.

Mike Holland sees carnage for any stocks that pre announce earnings disappointment. Still likes banks and selected tech stocks.

Viewer questions were answered about the meaning of price supports and how they are used. Marty gave explanations of many, such as a price range, moving averages, etc. Thinks they are all as he put it noise.

Lasslo was asked about DOW curbs? He called them a "time out" just like in a basketball game. When Lou asked what he thought about them being helpful or not? He gave a non committal answer.

Mike’s question dealt with a play on the home exercise craze. He reviewed a few companies all with declining sales and avoids the area.

Guest David Bowers Chief Global strategist from Merrill Lynch likes the outlook for Europe and Japan but is wary of Japan after a good last year. Does not see the US weak but growth potential better over seas during the next 3 years. Like the US he sees the best sectors in tech and financials. Lou asked why different asset allocation for private individuals vs. institutions? David said it had to deal with risk tolerance and time horizon. Does see some questions about the credibility of the Euro in some peoples eyes but thinks it will long term be positive. He likes Energy in the medium term (undefined time frame) thinks pricing power will remain strong. Mike Holland asked why we see Country funds trading at discounts to NAV? He said investors are getting fussy (my word) about what sectors they own and view Europe as a group of sectors and not so much what Countries they are investing in. David’s outlook on oil is current prices are not sustainable, he feels mid $20’s is a sustainable level. Finally sees no raise in short term rates from the FOMC in June and thinks long term US rates will be lower in 12 months.

Next week GUEST: Richard Driehaus Chief Investment Officer Driehaus Capital Management. PANELISTS:
Frank Cappiello, Louis Holland and Barbara Marci

What a great line by Uncle Lou from the 6/2/00 show:

"A funny thing happened on the way to the mortuary. The bull got well."

Louis Rukeyser on Wall $treet Week (6/2/00)

BTW -- I heard that PBS will be having a national "Scum of the Earth" pledge week to raise funds for legal costs as they go after the "summarizers."

Steve,

Somehow I doubt you'll ever hear such a thing coming from someone as secure and classy as Louis Rukeyser.
