What's hard to believe is how you techies stumbled upon a rare super high flying energy stock!

Not sure “stumbled upon it” applies. One reason I started to work for myself and the people at Suite101 is to learn from them. The Bradshaws are VCs and turn-a-round experts in their own rights. I’ve helped, but Suite101 is self sufficient and will start to pay us writers next year. For me, it should be somewhat significant. They never went overboard with PRs and other crap in the dot.com days to promote the stock over trying to build real value. That told me the VCs that brought them in and backed Suite101 had a clue how to build real value. I’ve been wanting to invest in natural gas since the mid 1980’s when I a broker told me about its potential. I didn’t want to pay commissions and nothing every seems like a good investment. When the VCs that did Suite101 said they were using the money, from selling out to make Suite101 private, to explore for natural gas, I was interested. I sold a bunch on the way up, but made four significant buys when the stock corrected from $2.80 to under $1 last year because it seemed to be repeating how they operated when it was an internet company. I thought the odds were good they’d get it above $6 again even if they didn’t hit a gusher.

Well, anything above $6 is a real surprise and a bonus. Most of the shares I hold now were purchased at 12¢ and 17¢ since I’ve sold off most of the higher priced ones. I’ve never owned a stock I’ve made a 100x gain on… much less thousands of shares.

I still remember a similar celebratory mood about this stock in 2000. Rumors that AOL or Yahoo! Would buy the company and drive it to $30 or $50 were the “upside” then that seem matched by what could be in the holes that have yet to be drilled. As us old timers well remember, It crashed when the bubble burst. One bad press release that says “Oops, it is not as good as we hoped” could send it back to a few bucks in a flash. In fact, they might do that just to shake out shares…. I really don’t trust the Indian government… much less new sources from that part of the world.

For the record, yes, I'm jealous! smile

You’ve done well on other investments. Hopefully, some of the other stocks we’ve been buying this year (in my newsletter) that are still down will do 10x or 20x gains in the next few years.

Ditto to being lucky Hugs, same as you, why would I want to sell it when it was practically worthless. Just got lost in space and landing on the moon with both feet. Just wonder how many suite readers have a position in this stock. Still room to join our GGR party but you must have a position to partake. Good luck all. This is just like a rollercoaster but it only goes one way. I keep telling myself to take more profits but hard to do as it keeps climbing.

Gujarat wants KG Basin gas to flow by Dec 2007

Kamlesh Trivedi / Ahmedabad January 03, 2006

The Gujarat government has set December 2007 as deadline for Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation to produce gas from the Krishna Godavari basin.

The production target has also been set at 7 million cubic meters of gas by the state government. GSPC has discovered 20 trillion cubic feet of gas from well no 3 in block 8.

GSPC is currently working on proposals from seven multinationals interested in joining hands with the company in exploration and production of gas from the basin. According to sources, the company will soon finalise the name of a financial adviser and then proceed with the offer documents for the multinational oil majors.

Seven multinationals — Shell, ExxonMobil, British Petroleum, British Gas, ENI of Italy, Total of France and Enadarko — have been shortlisted by GSPC for equity stake and for technology partnership.

GSPC, which is the operator of the block KG-OSN-2001/03, owns 80 per cent of the block, and the remaining 20 per cent are equally shared by Geoglobal Resources-India (GGRI) and Jubilant Enpro.

Since partnerships with oil majors may take time to come about, GSPC is gearing up to go in for production, wherever possible, on its own. GSPC has 14 wells in the block and company is currently drilling a fifth well.

The rising prices of imported liquefied natural gas and closure of operation by Shell, one of the two LNG companies importing and re-gasifying LNG in the country, have compelled GSPC and the state government to change their plans a bit and act fast.

The state’s gas requirement was increasing in leaps and bounds and the impact of the shortage was likely to be felt in two to three months, said sources. Gujarat-based companies and some more in the western corridor might be asked to prepare a contingency plan during the next few months, said sources.

For quickest possible production and transportation of gas from the east coast to the west coast, GSPC is considering swapping KG Basin gas with east-coast suppliers.

Up to date, none of the $9 warrants or $2.50 compensation warrants have been exercised. The file is still awaiting approval by the SEC. In the case of the $2.50 comp warrants, they will be exercisable within 30 days after the approval (not the Dec. filing), so they will not hit till at least Feb 5, even if the SEC approved it today. Even then, Carla said, it's only 785k shares.

The $9 warrants are also not exercisable at present, so despite the 20-day $12 watch, the early expiry notice will obviously not (can not) be filed/published by GGR in the very near future. If the approval comes after, or close to TD news, then their dilutionary effect, as PPS shoots up, should be even further diminished.

(Or is that dilutive? I know I've been called delusionary, and elusive, but . . .)

The third hole (actually the 5th, counting the two prior ones) will also be drilled from the same rig/platform. It will not be moved. In fact, they expect to drill a total of 4 or 5 from this platform, and it will be converted to a production platform. (I hope I'm getting these industry terms correct.)

Third hole will also be a directional one, like KG17, presumably at a similar angle in a different direction, and will be done by the ol' Black Dog.

Appraisal could be done even now, after KG17, or after the 3rd hole; or it could wait till all the holes from this platform are done. I got a sense there had been thoughts to wait for all 4 or 5, because it would be more complete/accurate, rather than have it appraised and re-appraised like Niko/Reliance did. Come out one time with the really really big news. I mentioned that a lot of institutions/funds can't invest till it's "proven", which we saw as providing an extended buying opportunity for us, but also was part of why the share price is not where it could/will be. Noted.

I had a couple more fairly lengthy phone calls with Carla in IR, which covered a wide range of topics/issues. I'll post them here topic by topic (hope I remember everything), some of which is old info, but just to mention for newbies.

Total Depth: Still looking at "mid-January", which means it could be the week of Jan. 16, or perhaps even Jan. 23. No equipment/mechanical problems with the ol' Black Dog (Saipem Perro Negro), but at these depths/temperatures, it has to be taken real slow.

"TD is to be the same vertical depth as KG8, but because it's at a slant, the hole length is longer." KG8 = 5100m. Target on KG17 is 1.6km away. If my use of Pythagoras'formula is right, that means hole length is 5345m to reach same depth. We should recall that during the last few weeks on KG8, drilling speed was averaging 10m per day. Slant drilling probably slows it down a bit more. Patience.

Perro Negro -- Contract has been extended for another 6 holes. This probably doesn't bring exclamations of joy from the oil patch vets, but they haven't been able to get another rig.

Carla mentioned she thinks the TD rumors were because of the Petrowatch article mentioning the upcoming GSPC bid package, which implied that TD had been already reached. Could also be that they reached 5100m hole length, and someone saw that was same as KG8, and off it went.

Atwood Beacon still on schedule to come in mid-year. When that arrives it will start punching holes in a similar, though much faster, fashion. First hole straight down, then direction thereafter.

I asked about the GSPC bidding package, and the shortlisted suitors. She said that it does not affect in any way GGR's interest (5%) in the block. They appear to be very excited, as many of us were, to have 7 majors bidding for a piece of it. I asked if one of them might possibly bring a rig; she was not sure, but they would sure welcome having a third platform up and going. (Implies that there's some gas down there, don't it?) GGR will not be making the decision on the partner; it's GSPC's call, since they're the one giving up part of their percentage.

Jubilant remains a 10% partner (in case there was question), and their share also will not be affected. I mentioned their relative silence, and she said that as a private company, Jubilant has no need to make PR, etc.
