» KLR - Penny Stock Stops

In response to message posted by Hu:

A stop-limit order does NOT convert to a market order when the limit is hit. Your limit is the price at which you will sell, nothing lower. Of course, depending on order backup, you may not get filled at all as the price continues to fall below this limit.

A straight stop order DOES become a market order once your price has been hit.

However, in the case of BOWG, due to the lack of visibility of penny stocks, the markets they trade upon, their volatility, and their risk factors, brokerage houses have instituted strict policies for trading these investments.

Shares that they consider 'penny stocks,' which are usually stocks for $5.00 and under, are not option eligible. This means that you can not sell short, set stop loss orders, or buy on margin.

That sounds right. Thank you for the clarification.

It's a mystery, but something (i.e., someone) sure enough is pushing bowg higher. Must be they aren't on that same "buy back cheaper" program we were just talking about...

Thanks guys for all the input. It sure is great to see this thread show a little action now and then. It has been a long dry spell. Keep the faith.

Interesting that BOWG is hanging out at this price AFTER the VOLUME has fallen off. In past ups and downs, the price dropped pretty quickly after the volume fell off.

Still holding near the highs on tiny volume. This is most strange as it fell back last year three times when volume dried up. This could indicate someone wants shares and will pay more later.

Kirk, I am having fun again watching BOWG maneuver its way up amid all the negatives market drivel. I have a few posts about bowg on the raging bull thread if you care to check it out. Cannon Ball

A strange and most unpredictable animal, indeed. There's no known reason for it to go higher. Yet, it drifts up this time in stead of down. Go figure...

Just wondering if anyone has the guts to short this baby now. Should be interesting watching this nino the next few days.

In response to message posted by Wendell:

I'm not sure about Canadian stocks and the rules in other countries, but I don't think the Nasdaq allows you to short any stock under $5.

Think of the risk... a small float stock at $1.25 for no good reason could easily go up two or three times just as easily as it could fall 80%. An 80% loss is managable, but losing two or three times the money you invested with a margin call if a short you have triples, deadly.
