I enjoy the postings and opinions of most of the members. I can not tolerate the speed of the site. I have waited months for them to improve things, and still it takes FAR too long to load. I try keeping multiple pages open (netscape) so I can research something else while it loads, but it locks my other pages while loading. This happens with very few web pages. I thought with all the techies becoming available they would be able to fix things. I do not need them to lead the market in technology, but it shouldn't be a pain in the ass to read this site. I suspect you will get a few responses from Kirk and Jen on how to properly use the site, but no substantial action on any improvement. The best you can expect is Kirk telling how he doesn't like Christians and please press a few sponsors. As far as I can tell, the site loads quickly for most users but a few have problems. My HUNCH is this is a problem with the ISPs and lookup tables or something like that as sometimes my ISP is slow for a few sites and fast for others. I have DSL so a really slow site is very easy to spot. IF you have troubles, send email to mailto:dean@suite101.com and see if he can help you fix them. The slowness is one reason that I have not been posting and have been reading less and less lately. Loading is unbearably slow at home with my dial-up ISP. Plus I warned that he had a history of making bad calls and hiding the evidence so you often were over confident in his abilities. Brinker shut down his web site where ONLY his paying customers could post in the discussions. It seemed that 9 of 10 posts were complaints about the bad advice and that was not good for business and he shut down the discussions on his site. I wouldn't worry too much that a few take pot shots at me here. Suite101.com is doing just fine. We're doing so well that we neither actively recruit for members or editors. As to the slow loading, I got the following from management: Telus did an upgrade to their infrastructure that was supposed to make things faster for us and everyone else at the server farm. apparently, they've taken a step backwards. I've opened a trouble ticket with Talus Adv. Com. to see whets going on. I will let you know as soon as I have more information. Sorry Bob, but the reports of our demise are greatly exagerated. Special thanks to people like David Korn (who's "Moneytalk Interpretations Thread" stopped loading for him) who have helped us try to figgure out what is wrong. It amazes me that only David's Interpretation thread seemed to not load properly for him.... Please email me if anyone else has problems that stick out like that. This is my first post with my new computer. My old one was very slow to load pages here at suite101. Often one minutes plus! It has a 133 MHz and 48 RAM. This new one has a 1000MHz and 128 RAM. Still on a dail up connection at 28800 but with this new machine it is much faster. Kirk, No grudge about your take on Brinker. In fact, no grudge on any account. Just stating a few opinions which are: 1. The site is slow and not easy or convenient to use when compared to other sites. 2. That being the case, if Brinker brings his discussion site up again, the superior characteristics will be incentive for people to go there. 3. In my opinion, the main purpose of a moderator is to create a climate which is conducive to good conversation and exchange of ideas. It does not mean he should tell how he dislikes Christians, Jews, religion, politics, politicians or others. That's what Justa did on Brinkers site and no one thought it was a good thing. 4. He also doesn't shoot the messenger when problems with the site are brought to his attention but does take it in the spirit of someone trying to improve the site and tries to make improvements. 5. He doesn't resort to calling people, he may disagree with, names.
