Nice day -- stocks and bonds up, interest rates and the price of oil down. Fed Funds futures showing zero chance of FOMC hike on 8/22? Sure does swing back and forth don't it?

» KLR - Real money on the line

Federal funds futures contracts now indicate market players believe there is just a one-in-three chance of a quarter percentage point rate hike at the Fed's next policy meeting on Aug. 22.

This compares with a 50-50 chance earlier this week, analysts said.

» Kirk - Thanks KLR

Funny, people that own:

Lucent, T, Agilent, Lexmark, MSFT yadda-yadda....
sure don't have to worry about the "wealth effect" at the present moment.

One by one, the expensive stocks that miss earnings are being taken out and shot. This is good as they deserve it when they are not growing, but many hold these stocks (including myself) and this is not fun, even if we know long term the companies are sound.

I'm sure glad I took my profits out of HWP at $126 and then even more at $135. (Remember my "dividend" post? I took a 4% dividend when it went from $126 to $135.)
<img src=http://chart.bigcharts.com/bc3/intchart/... width=430 height=218>
It is getting a licking (down $9 today to $121) just for past association with Agilent. 8) You would think HWP could go up as it was winning some market against SUNW and Sun just had a blowout quarter.

of course, some people are estatic!

Now that Rande isn't here, I can say how these days of investor sillyness are great for those of us that don't believe in market efficiency. I try to NEVER pay full price for hot stocks but I sure put them on my shopping list for when they get haircuts from missing a quarter or two. Fact be known, I've done some shopping today and an email will be sent out soon to those that subscribe to that service... 8)

Thought I would put this here so many might see it. William Valentine had a decent series of articles this week. The last one was the best imo. Anyway some good reading for the weekend, at the bottom of the page there are links to the other articles. Series

» sammy2 - Bond Funds-NASDQ Quotes

Assuming this is the place to get some answers to long time Questions I've been embarrased to ask; heres two of mine:

1 If one is bullish on a certain type of bonds (BAAfor instance) how does one identify a bond fund with a heavy percentage thus invested?

2.Re: NASDQ quotes after the close--Are they based on actual bid/asks? So often they seem so unrealistic.

Thanks
