» PeteM - The first three chapters are good and deal with kind of interest

The first three chapters are good and deal with kind of interesting concepts such as the one Brinker discussed on show retire and don't tell ayone, also how real estate appreciation will never happen quite like the 70s and 80s, also deals with issues of giving how giving economic outpatient care to kids is counterproductive...

This book repeats itself alot and touts annuities, but has some interesting insight as to how financial planning in our age should be different than it was in the past, that's why I would get it from the library if possible.

» DeborahC_2 - Hello. I heard Bob's program last weekend in bits and pieces

Hello. I heard Bob's program last weekend in bits and pieces. Out of the corner of my ear, I heard him mention a book by two guys, I think one was named Levine. It discussed careers, attitudes about jobs / careers in America, etc. The basic message was something to the effect of 'using your job as a means to get you where you really want to be'. Anyway, it all sounded very intriguing but I didn't get the name of the
book or the authors. Can someone help me out?
Thanks so much,
Debbey

» Kirk - Has anybody read this book called <a href=http://www.amazon.com/

Has anybody read this book called
Stocks for the Long Run
by Jeremy Siegel that Bob Brinker recommended last weekend on his show? Anyone care to write a book review? I'll put the review on my Reading List.

Thanks

» Mark_J - Just finished "Die Broke" and "Against the Gods.' "Die Broke"

Just finished "Die Broke" and "Against the Gods.'

"Die Broke" was a very entertaining and informative book. If you heard Stephan Pollan when he guest hosted for Bob a few weeks back, none of the ideas will be new. However, it's interesting to see them all in black and white. I'm not sure if I agree with the strategies 100%, but he has me thinking about leasing my next car instead of buying. For those without kids, why not try the reverse mortgage and charitable remainder trust approach to generate income in your later years.

"Against the Gods" was a bit technical for me. Definitely a quality piece diving into the study of risk and the human pysche. I did skim over parts where the author dove into probabilities. But definitely some interesting commentary on the human factor in the stock market. And why we tend to overreact when the market goes up and down. Much like this week! It pointed out that the public does have a tendency to buy high and sell low.

And, yes, I did take advantage of my local library for these reads...

» JenL_3 - Kirk's Bookstore

I have been ordering a few books from Amazon.com through Kirk's link, and just wanted to say that Amazon.com is a fantastic site. I've always been hesitant to buy things over the net, because of security concerns, but AMZN assures that the site is secure.

After I ordered the first book, on the next visit, it was like returning to my own personal site with a list of books that might be of interest; and placing the order just takes one click and it's done.

You can read reviews of the books and even interviews with the authors, before you buy.

Also found out that you could send a book to someone else using their e-mail address, rather than their address. You can even do all your Holiday gift shopping at AMZN and have the books wrapped.

No wonder Amazon.com's stock is soaring (+199% since Oct.), even if they haven't made a profit yet - they've thought of everything. What a service!...J.L.

» Bdavidson - recommendations for beginning investors

Just curious if anybody out there has a an "absolutely must have in your personal financial library" recommendation for a beginning investor. I need to know how much to place where for not only personal retirement planning, but also college planning for my kids.

» lana98 - Thanks Norman for the suggestion !

I love mostly this paragraph in Chapter 21 of your recommended book:
"During the study, investors displayed an amazing ability to market time in reverse, as they floundered and flip-flopped without any apparent strategy. However, the worse an investor's returns were as a result of his inept market timing attempts, the more likely the investor was to blame the funds rather than himself!"

Guess what, now I just sit and sit on the investments and no longer flip or flop. I hope if the bear market hits I can afford another 45 years of sitting until I kick the bucket .
