I've uploaded a chart that is quite interesting. click here to see the chart then please return here to discuss and give comments.

It would be very intersting to see the price of other semiconductor companies plotted on the same graph. My gut tells me that semiconductor stocks are to the information age as railroads were to the industrial revolution. In the same way, steel mills give way to Semiconductor Capital Equipment Stocks. Since the revolution is only starting, I see these companies as having a long way to go. Since my job is to design semiconductors, I am close and have a bit of an edge over some analysists(or at least I'd like to think so). Anyway, Peter Lynch says to invest in industries that you know and understand so I invest here rather than in health care or financial services, other areas with good growth potential.

I am interested in what others think of the industry and your comments on my chart. I would welcome updating the chart if you could supply more data.

regards

An interesting chart. I filled in UTEKs
quarterly price by hand and made the rough
observation that it seems to follow the same
general pattern, but may lag the trend about
a quarter or 1/2 quarter behind.

Not knowing a great deal about the industry,
I think it makes sense that a cap. equip.
company would lag. In any event this looks
like good news. Is there a UTEK thread here or
enough interest here to start a discussion?

PS Is that really Bob Brinker Jr. on Silicon
Investor website? I am a silent observer of
the UTEK thread there and have learned a great
deal over the past 3 months.

Hi Pete

If you email me the data for Utek, I'll update my chart and republish. Thanks in advance

Yes, BB Jr posts on SI. BB sr. also posts under an alias according to some. My father doesn't believe it, but many of us are fairly certain as a result of the interactions and posts. It is really fun to read and post stuff during the week and then hear Bob Sr use it on the show. The mention of the Market Cap being larger for GE than some of the Asian countries was posted on SI last week. Bob Sr also makes of Barrons and the NY Times often on his show.

Great idea on a UTEK thread. Just observe that we try to not divulge what subscribers to Marketimer pay for... i.e. exact Brinker writing, but otherwise discussion is great! Please start it whenever you want!

thanks
Kirk out

Not sure if this works for all, but it is from Silicon Investor. Chart compares MU, AMAT, INTC and UTEK since Nov 1993 in relative terms.
