Do you have any thoughts on this one as a short??

I have been following them on some of the other boards and looks like a PUMP & DUMP.

For those of you following (hopefully from the short side) the Play By Play story, please note that the HUGE news of a Pokeman agreement turns out to be a non exclusive agreement:

The company, which had 1998 sales of $178.1 million, said the rights to make Pokemon products isn't exclusive and came through 4Kids Entertainment Co., Nintendo of America Inc.'s licensing agent.

I hope people understand the ramifications of this,

» Hugs - Dear Anthony

Perhaps PCLN (priceline.com) has a flawed business concept that should make it the subject of an "equity investigation."

The power of e-commerce on the internet seems to be shifting more power into the hands of the informed consumer. Businesses are competitively pressured to provide the best deal for the client. Yet with priceline.com, that burden of achieving a "better deal" is placed squarely on the shoulders of the "least informed" participant out there, the consumer. They have to do all of the work, and then may only achieve marginal sucess or benefit for their effort. That may be simple enough to do for sirline tickets, but the expectations of expanding that into other areas of commerce will be an unscaleable mountain. Click on the following link as well:

Priceline comment

PCLN is resting near it's all time low, and failed to participate much in the recent rally. I think this may soon break the support line and drop to a new all time low. When it breaks, it may prove difficult to ever recover above it, as the fundemental concept may prove to be fatal.

» KirkL - What about Pokemon Fever?

Saw this on TV Friday night…

CBS Marketwatch says the longs and shorts are going head to head on this one at Play-by-Play Toys, PBYP. I heard the deal is nonexclusive…..

Back into the tank for them next week????

Is a nonexclusive agreement to manufacture a toy enough to turn around a company?

This in itself would be enough to deflate the runup, but consider also that no revenues will be seen til April 2000 (i.e. after this Xmas season), and that the license is not for retail sales, but only for sales at venues such as fairs and carnivals!

» Hugs - This thread wilting?

Last weekend, I stated my belief PCLN should be sold/shorted.

When the market opened Tuesday, it traded most of the day 68 to 70. Today it broke to a new record low of 54 7/8 and closed at 58 3/32.

On top of that, today Morgan Stanley Dean Witter analyst Mary Meeker pointed out that close to 170 million shares in the company would be available for sale over the next six months.

Put this stock in a bag and beat it. It trades lower, but if you need to close both ends of the trade to claim a good call, cover it if it dives into the 40's tomorrow for a nice short term gain. Otherwise wait until next week. It'll be there soon enough.

Shall we count this for a notch on the pistol, or does it have to be a "real time" trade? I called this dog a dog on the long weekend before it popped up 2 or 3 points. Just a lucky shot (short), eh?

» I_ALSO - Wilting or already dead

I don't think A@P has even looked at this thread since his last post, and I sure don't see any of the names that were on his SI board. I can't afford $600/month and sure did take advantage of SI's "free" picks from A@P. I'm still doing OK on my own (just wish I hadn't been wishy washy) about FATB, but nobody was out here to bounce my fears off of.

PCLN sounds like a good long-term short (I don't do those). I remember when RMBS was the IPO darling and then it got out how much stock was being freed up and then 80 to 50 with hardly an up day.

Good luck with it.

» carolynhorvath - PCLN

Morgan Stanley resumed coverage of the e-commerce phenom with an "outperform" rating.Internet analyst Mary Meeker pointed out that valuation will remain a concern and that a large number of
Priceline shares will become unrestricted and available for sale over the next couple of months with more than 5 million shares unleashed on September 26.

Looks like a good short.
