In the past, I was quite a fan of SI. Months back, I saw the moderators hose down promoters whose relentless efforts were perhaps suggestive of undisclosed interest and manage to keep things civil without stepping on reasonable discourse and strong expressions of opinion.It seems 1999 has been a different story. This year, SI has become overrun with blathering touts engaging in all manner of disagreeable activities, and the intervention of moderators in matters such as these is little more than a memory.
The bottom line for me as a user of SI has been a marked decrease in the signal-to-noise ratio. If nothing else, people spend far too much time on activities like those described above and far too little on serious investing information and pleasant communication.
The clearest sign of fuzzy thinking amongst SI management is the site redesign. Even though a majority of respondents preferred the old design, SI went ahead in making their site look like so many others, as well as decreasing its readability. This was just one more step in the Yahoo-ization of what was once the best investment site around. One might call it "Invasion of the Dittoheads".
So, thank goodness Suite101 is hosting Anthony. I wouldn't be too surprised to see Bill Wexler, Mr. Pink, Goldfinger, and a few others here soon.
