I have wondered about they current value of BRK myself, as the first 20 or so post to this thread indicate.

One such post has a link to article about a female analyst named, Alice Schroeder, here is the link:

http://www.pathfinder.com/fortune/invest...

Maybe someone can find a copy of her work. I would sure like to see how she came up with her valuation of $90,000.

I think valuation of BRK is next to impossible. Maybe that is why I have not bought any BRK.B. Like AOL I have stayed away from something I could not determine the value of.

Brokers, as a general rule, have always ruled BRK out when asked by their customers. They have been telling their customers it is over valued since the 70's, when BRK.A was under $1000.

» MichaelC_AU - I like the new thread name!

Thanks for renaming the thread! It was the minimalist in me that named it merely "Omaha"

This way everyone knows who it is about.

» RandeS - Kirk,

Kirk,

Should add something else to the "Warren Buffett we don't know." He has just about completely aced his children out of any participation in his fortune. Ostensibly, he wanted his son and daughter to remain unspoiled and grow up to be well-adjusted kids. Not sure about the daughter, but have seen interviews with the son and this guy seems a tad bitter about having to completely fend for himself with little chance of any sizable inheritance. Not sure what my take on this is. On the one hand, Buffett's approach to his children has some merit. On the other hand, seems he's carried it kind of far. They ARE his children, even if they didn't earn the wealth themselves. How many of us, being so close to one of the greatest fortunes in history, would not feel a bit put off by being shut out? In any event, it appears there's no love lost between son and dad. Kind of a shame.

You know what has always puzzled me about Mr Buffet is that he must be a genius in his own right and my curiousity about him is if he doesn't understand MSFT or anyother tech co why doesn't he EDUCATE himself. Maybe he has so much money he doesn't want to take valuable time.

ron-

Have you read the book "Buffetology". It is written by an outsider but got me to understand the "future value" calculations Warren looks at and got me to purchase a financial calculator for the first time. Check your local library.

John, Thanks for the tip. Why do you suppose he has a block on tech? I'm just curious. He obviously runs circles around me.

Hands on
WB seems like a hands on sort of guy.
Has a sweet tooth so likes See's candy and Dove bars.
Probably has bashed a few cars so insurance is something he can get a handle on.
Microprocessors and software? Can't eat those or use them to recover a loss.
Lynch says invest in what you understand. WB does well enough so might feel he has enough on his plate and doesn't need to expand. Good enough for me.
Still....makes you wonder. People sure put him on a pedestal too. I hear annual meetings are like revivals!

» TONYBRIG - Dont understand Msft

Whats there to understand?
Maybe b4 he didnt understand it but with all this
computer world he should get it by now.
Michael Murphy disagrees with him about not
investing in what yo dont understand. Says you dont have to understand how a chip works to
buy Intc.
Sounds like Buffet should read Dianetics to see
why the mental block.
But I wish I had it and his $.

What incentive is there to learn about techs? To Buffett there are far more undervalued furniture stores, fast food chains, and insurance companies to even consider an overhyped speculative industry like technology companies.

Peter Lynch in "One Up on Wall Street" even says the more boring a company is the more likely it is to be undervalued.

What has he done for the Investment world lately
and more importantly how can he help us going

A few thoughts about Mr. Buffet. We all have different temperaments and comfort levels. I have heard much attributed to Mr. Buffet, we all have heard it. The one thing that I remember most to paraphrase. Try to use your common sense to figure out future trends and throw you money in front of a trend rather than chase it. In the long run it seems like sound advise

The jist of it fits a mental picture, with the exception of the word "throw". I can't imagine Buffet "throwing money" at anything, although "placing" money makes perfect sense. However, given the widespread shortage of common sense, it's quite likely that either would work well yoked with it.
