Thanks for all the tips. I am sure of the ones I want to purchase, we have a reason we are getting them. To open an etrade account you have to have $1000.00 correct? I don't have that kind of money just sitting around. So how would I locate someplace to just go buy the stocks I want?? From all I have seen on the Internet I have to have $1000.00 minimum to open an account and I honestly don't have that kind of money to just never touch. I wish but not.

buying penny stocks can be fun, but it is more gambling than investing. IF you can't afford to lose, you really shouldn't play.

How about getting your honey a certificate for a nice dinner or perhaps an evening at a gambling establishment?

Another alternative is to call Schwab and see what they charge for a one time purchase? My guess is it might be $50 which, when added to the spread between the bid and the ask, will really set you behind if you can't afford to buy large dollar amounts of penny stocks.

Also remember that you have to pay that when you sell so you might pay $100 to buy $1000 worth of penny stocks which is a built in 10% loss before you talk about the difference between the bid and the ask which can be huge for some.

I currently have an etrade account with only $500 in securities which I trade back and forth. In fact, I made $20 last week (etrade made 39.90). I talked to a broker there and what he said was two trades a year and no minimum account or fees. If that's not good enough...

Try this online broker:

http://www.siliconinvestor.com/stocktalk...

I had an account with them to buy a Canadian stock, but had to go through their brokers by telephone to purchase because of this. No minimums and $4 a trade for some stocks, $24 if telephone broker. Not sure how much they charge for Certs. Probably $15 or $20.

» investorquest - Penny Stock Portfolio Updated

I have to apologize for not being able to update the portfolio for the past few weeks, new business and little time, but things have settled down a bit.
What a difference a month makes....
From the last listing ADSX is up 184% it is now up 26% from the contest start, what a turnaround.
CLN & IPIX are both up 20% from last month, and are close to going into the green from the contest start.
USXP is still up from the start but has dropped 38% over the past month. I guess our leaders are evolving.
Unfortunately, the rest of the picks are still struggling, but things change fast in this market.
I would guess we will see more surprises before the next winner is picked at the end of December.
You can view the portfolio at http://www.mcbweb.com/contest
Till next time, happy investing.

Thanks for the update

I added to my BOWG position at 20¢, 18¢ and 12¢ after "getting stuck" with 21¢ for the contest.

Spread between bid and ask has been as high as 50% and as low as a single penny at times. Talk about long odds to make money! LOL smile

As long as I am beating Whirlwind, I guess I can be happy. smile

» investorquest - 2nd Quarter Winner

Durban Deep - DROOY picked by GoldPhoenix is the winner for this quarter up 19.13%
The first three quarterly winners will be different. If one of them is the winner for the year, we will come up with a special bonus.
2win's pick Universal Express was still up 64% from the start, but down over the quarter.
Patent Enforcement deserves honorable mention, up 8%, as does Celsion, up 1.54% and Applied Digital up .47%.
Coming close to going positive, Juno Online -UNTD, after some corporate reorganization, is now back to an adjusted only -4.65%, nice recovery. As well Suite101 - BOWG has almost doubled from the lows and is now only -4.76%, next quarter maybe we will see these two also positive.
This next quarter is usually one of the more active, let's see what our portfolio can do.
I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
Until next time,

In response to message posted by investorquest:

Happy New year to you to investorquest and thanks for the contest update!

Congratulations to Durban Deep! I'll get you next quarter with BOWG! For all of 2001, BOWG did pretty well.

BTW, as of today, Bowg has had a single down trade of 200 shares at 20 cents for a $40 trade. This is pure monkey busines and they might be trying to smoke out a few sellers.... as they often try this crap when they have buyers.

I snagged some BOWG shares in 2001 at 18¢ & 12¢ and hope they all are big winners this year again. (we won't talk about the shares I hold at higher prices that are now for use to offset capital gains!)

For the year 2001, BOWG was up 23% to 20¢ from its 2000 close at 17¢. I'm hoping for an easy double just to get started and hope for much more, but don't we hope that for ALL our stock picks? smile

Again, thanks for running this contest!

In response to message posted by Kirk:

Kirk and others on this thread, my apologies for not updating the portfolio sooner.
There have been some spectacular price moves in the past six weeks in some of our stocks. I just captured the closing prices for the end of the week and I will post the updated portfolio tomorrow.
