» investorquest - Contest Results to Sept. 7

First week of September was not kind to our little portfolio. BOWG should have been one of our up stocks, according to last trade at $0.30, but unfortunately the numbers are calculated by bid, and it stayed the same at $0.18.

For month end I'm planning on an extra calculation of a percentage for our portfolios performance. I'm looking forward to the time when it will be in positive territory. :-)

Till next time,

» Kirk - BOWG

closed up today.

5,000 shares at the close at $0.20 so not a big deal but still a victory when most of the rest of my screen is down.

15,000 shares went out at $0.15! SOMEBODY bailed... but it looks like the market makers made you pay up if you wanted them.

» investorquest - Our Portfolio Survived

In spite of one of the worst weeks the market has had, we did not fare too badly.
Some of our picks were off a little and some even moved up a little.
Durban Deep being a gold stock now shows a profit, up 20%.
All in all we showed a better staying power than the larger markets, however, we had been beaten down pretty savagely prior to this week.
Remember, this week will give us our first quarterly winner for the contest. Friday the 28th will be the date for pricing, I'll try and have the numbers up earlier in the weekend.
We may get some strange markets this week,
For the new readers of this thread, to view our PennyPick Portfolio go to http://www.mcbweb.com/contest

Have a great week.

» investorquest - Wow! What A Week

Our first quarter closed with great action. Most of our companies moved up on the week. Unfortunately we lost Exodus Communications, the Company declared bankruptcy on Thursday and currently is not quoted. Our Contest winner, for the first quarter, actually lost a little ground this week, but still came in with a whopping 180% profit for the three months. 2Win - DaveJ please contact me at investorquest@yahoo.com to advise where you would like your "Suite101 Prize Pack" sent. The contest continues, and with the market activity we are currently experiencing, the next three months should have some more surprises. The next winner will be declared as of the last trading day in December, and will be for the six months performance. Hope the next quarter will be good to everyone. Have a great week. Investorquest

» investorquest - Amazing Market Week

The major markets staged a healthy recovery, however, our portfolio enjoyed some nice moves upwards and also some reversals.
Juno Online - JWEB merged to become United Online - UNTD at the rate of .357 Juno shares for one new United share. I have adjusted the prices accordingly.
Events this weekend should make for a volatile market this coming week.
May the world settle back to order quickly.

» investorquest - Our Portfolio Very Mixed

This past week saw a number of our companies with increases in their prices, while about the same number slipped. We also had a minor miracle, where Exodus Communications, which declared bankruptcy, and was banished to oblivion on the pink sheets, came back to the OTCBB and was bid at $0.13. This story may not be over yet. Ourisman ... what's the story?
Have a great week.

» Mike_8 - Cellstar expects loss for 3rd quarter

Monday October 15, 8:24 am Eastern Time

Press Release

SOURCE: CellStar Corporation

CellStar to Delay Third-Quarter 10-Q Filing; Expects Loss for Third
Quarter But Income From Ongoing Operations; Expects to Restate
Results for Second Quarter of Fiscal 2001; Credit Facility Increases
From $60 Million to $85 Million

CARROLLTON, Texas, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- CellStar Corporation (Nasdaq: CLST - news) today
announced a delay in filing with the SEC the Company's Form 10-Q for the third quarter ended August 31,
2001, while it resolves accounting issues that arose in finalizing financial results for its operations in Mexico.

The Company's report on Form 10-Q could not be filed within the prescribed time period because information
required for completion and filing is not yet available due to difficulties in finalizing financial results related to
the Company's operations in Mexico. The Company recently made management and staff changes in its
Mexico operations, which have contributed to the delay in completing the closing of accounts at August 31,
2001. While its third quarter results are not yet finalized, the Company expects to report a net loss for the third
quarter of fiscal 2001, but net income from ongoing operations excluding special charges.

Further, as a result of the accounting issues discovered in the closing process, the Company expects to
restate results for the second quarter of 2001 to decrease earnings by approximately $3.0 million pre-tax ($2.0
million after tax).

The Company expects to release results for the third quarter and file its Form 10-Q within the next seven days
and will hold a conference call for investors following the release.

In addition, the Company announced that on October 12, 2001, it finalized an amendment to its new five-year
revolving credit facility with Foothill Capital Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wells Fargo &
Company (NYSE: WFC - news), that increased the commitment amount from $60 million to $85 million.

» sunshining2u - please help me..

I am an idiot when it comes to stock but my husband has picked 3 penny stocks he would like. I would like to get them for him for a Christmas gift and have no idea how to buy them, can anyone give me advice? I of course don't want to spend thousands of dollars to join anything, I just want to buy a few stocks and hold them forever. Does anyone have any suggestions??
Thanks in advance

» Whirlwind - Re: please help me..

In response to message posted by sunshining2u:

Get an etrade account. 19.95 per trade for any amount (note--etrade requires one trade per quarter or a $15 fee per quarter for maintenance...also they charge $50 to close account so you can also use your own broker with the same strategy I lay out).

Go to stockhouse.com and type in the company symbol upper right slot. You will get a screen either giving you two or more companies with same symbol, or one screen with charts and info. Look at bid and ask. After checking the chart out to make sure the stock didn't just run up, go back to etrade and place an order at the bid for each stock. On etrade you check limit order on the trading screen and type in the decimal amount, i.e. .085, etc.

Leave it open till cancelled. These stocks move up and down so at least one of the three will fill. You can always cancel your trade on etrade just by going to open orders and clicking cancel button. If you are buying 300 shares or more, make it all or none unless you are willing to see a partial fill and extra broker's fees.

When the stock is purchased, ask for Company share certificates. You sign them over to your hubby on Christmas.

More pointers...stock certificates might cost something like $15 each. Check and see if the stock is down already for the year. If it is, December is likely to take it down further with tax loss selling. Best time to buy a penny stock is the day after Christmas! But one week on either side of Christmas usually shows the lows for the 4th quarter. If you have money on account, the certs can sometimes get to you within 5 business days if mail is moving.

One more thing, unless you've really scoped out the pennystock, you might want to reconsider and just buy lotto tickets! =o
