So far this portfolio has not been the star performer. But things do change quickly like USXB that went from a loss status to up 68% in one week. That is what makes the pennies so interesting to follow. The new Penny Pick numbers are posted, you can view them at http://www.mcbweb.com/contest Have a great week! Investorquest -- posted by investorquest » JenL_2 - Re: 4th Week For Contest In response to message posted by investorquest:Thanks IQ - Our Penny Picks Portfolio will start doing better by and by. I bought Computerized Thermal Imaging (CIO) because I was excited about the prospects of their CTI breast cancer screening system, and I still am. But their industrial products, like the Turbine Blade Inspection System also sound promising. This product stands to benefit from the current ramp-up in energy production: Markets The worldwide market for power generation equipment, including gas turbines, is approximately $120 billion per year. Of this amount, $55 billion represents equipment for new power plants and buildings, and $45 billion represents service and retrofit. The Turbine Blade Inspection System can be used by both turbine manufacturers, such as Alstom, and turbine maintenance facilities, such as Natole Turbine Enterprises. .....Jen -- posted by JenL_2 » Kirk - BOWG up 60% today at 40¢ <img src=http://www2.marketwatch.com/charts/int-a... width=452 height=366>Could get exciting if there is a real buyer accumulating. I have real money in this one (but I work there). -- posted by Kirk » investorquest - Re: BOWG up 60% today at 40¢ In response to message posted by Kirk:Kirk, Do you know what is causing the rise? Investorquest -- posted by investorquest » Whirlwind - Use this site to assess your stocks... http://www.stockscores.com/index.asp?pag...As you can see, CLST is highly recommended. BOWG is in the optimistic catagory and just six points away from having positive sentiment. Probably a good accumulation period ahead of a nice move. -- posted by Whirlwind » investorquest - Penny Pick Portfolio Better The stock picking portfolio is looking healthier, led by Universal Express up a whopping 756% and Suite 101.com up 28.6%. The other losses on the list are not as bad on average. You can check out your favorite on the list: http://www.mcbweb.com/contest Investorquest -- posted by investorquest » Kirk - Re: Penny Pick Portfolio Better In response to message posted by investorquest:What is really interesting about penny stocks is how they manipulate the closing price with a low bid. I think BOWG was trading many shares much higher then the market makers would trade 100 shares at a low bid to close the stock. REALLY strange as the price to buy 100 shares @ $0.27 is less than the commission at Schwab! If nothing else, this contest should teach people to NEVER use a market order to buy a thinly traded stock. BOWG closed with a bid at 27¢ and an ask of 42¢.... as shown here on Yahoo http://finance.yahoo.com/q?d=t&s=BOWG.OB Pretty good profits available if you could buy at the bid and sell at the ASK... When you see these sorts of spreads... I suspect monkey business as I think they have orders and are trying to shake out some profit takers... -- posted by Kirk » investorquest - Portfolio Update The prices for the past two weeks have generally continued their slide. Unfortunately there are not many bright stars to point out except that Internet Pictures is now up 11 1/2% and Universal Express still shows a very healthy gain of 440%.We need a few more of these. We have now passed the half way point of our first three months. Our first quarterly prize will be awarded at the end of September. Markets usually become more active next month, so I am expecting our portfolio to act accordingly.... There has not been any posting on this thread since Aug 5th. I would appreciate it if those following the list could post a note to indicate there is interest.Next week marks the end of the second month, leaving four weeks until the first quarter prize. The markets could get active in September, so I will be back to posting updates every week starting next weekend. Investorquest -- posted by investorquest » JenL_2 - Re: Anyone Watching?
