» RandeS - The Internet.

The Internet. Either it's a joke, or the biggest thing since fire. Hard to find an in-between opinion. Should be interesting to see how things turn out. Anyway, $3.25 ain't bad if you can sell-a-billion.com (provided it doesn't cost you $3.26 per sale).

» Phish - Rande,

Rande,
Your contributions are very much appreciated!
This is truly profound:

Really sums it all up.

» KirkL - Correction

Correction

Does my stock price get to triple with these numbers?

From Amazon:

Quarterly Referral Fees Earned
------------------------------
Store name: Kirk Lindstrom
Total shipped to customer this quarter: = $159.93
Referral fee this quarter: = $8.00

Figure expense was my time...

5% profit...before deducting for PC, ISP, phone line, etc...

I think my father bought about half the books, I bought a few and probably had $2 in commissions from "my fans" that use my links....

Come on, ya all can do better than that! 8)

Pretty much a waste of time other than it was fun to learn how to do it and, who knows, get 1000 times the readership here and we might talk some real money in the future! Sure wasn't worth the grief I get from someone that thinks they invented the internet book store (after I had mine first)!

Oh well... More for a service for readers was the reason I originally did it anyway.

» RandeS - Let's see Kirk.

Let's see Kirk....you made $8 and took some grief (petty and ridiculous) on who's "reading list" was "first" and/or "best." Either it IS a service, or you're a masochist. I'll have to assume it's a service and say, "thanks."

» KirkL - Making Money on the Net.

Making Money on the Net.

This HAS been interesting. Long term, I need to make some sort of living for the time put in to manage and organise this site. What I am learning is invaluable both in skills as well as just what is involved. It should also help me decide what to invest in for the long term. Being able to understand the magnitude of effort and what is involved for many aspects of the internet is valuable.

The data I have collected...wow! I have some personal data on newsletter subscription hit rate vs requests received that is probably the amoung first of its kind, for example. (for someone with no radio show or large following)

I have been toying with the idea of having a "Kirk's Sponsors page" that I promote weekly and ask all that care to show appreciation to visit it and click once on each sponsor. (check it out!) This would help me get income and still keep the site free of advertising. Participation would be totally voluntary too so nobody would have to look at advertisements unless they wanted to do so. I would get between two pennies to twenty cents for each click on the advertisements. Perhaps I should put this discussion in the "Thanks for the Effort" thread?

Alternatively, I could just put advertisements at the end of each post like these, but that would annoy many I am sure.

Home Loan Markets
Find the lowest home loan rates by comparing hundreds of programs

Day Trader Screen Example

Home Loan & Refinance Info Online from MSN

Lets move this discussion the "Thanks for the Effort" thread. (Can't make Rande TOO famous discussing my pay….seems "funny" to me….) Maybe I should make a sponsor page for Rande too? I think I would have to charge for this…. 8) Now THERE is an idea, recruit volunteers then charge them to get pages to make money with…. www.ripoff.com Should be worth millions!

Long or Short
Rande:

Selling options can they also be long-term gains?
Say I sell a leap and dont buy it back for over a yr?
Or just in general buy a leap and then sell it
after a year this must be long-term!

» RandeS - Tony,

Tony,

Sorry, in the case of an option on stock, securities, commodities or commodity futures, any gain of a nondealer grantor on the lapse of options is short-term capital gain. Also, any gain or loss of a nondealer grantor from a closing transaction is short-term capital gain or loss.
