Don't liberals realize there would be no need to drill for oil in Alaska if they would all stop driving? -- posted by R_Lewis » AL_W - Days off In response to message posted by Kirk:"they can miss up to 10 days a year without an excuse and not get fired?" We our people 12 days! Plus with as little as 24 hrs notice, they can get 1 day of vacation, as long as that does not put his/her shift over its maximum vacations off the the day. -- posted by AL_W » lcha - Amazing! This is really amazing. The energy sector is the ONLY sector of the S&P500 that is revising earnings UPWARD for the next quarter and there has not been a post on this thread for 9 days.I have worked in the oil service sector(seismic) for 17 years and I have never seen as much value in E & P companies, especially small companies, as I do now. These companies are raking in cash, growing production and earnings and no one cares. CSCO probably traded more shares today than 90% of this entire sector. I have discovered over the past several years that buying value is lonely. It is especially lonely when the ENERGY thread isn't even awake. PING! -- posted by lcha » Steven_Russell - Re: Amazing! In response to message posted by lcha:You must mean like seismic exploration companies such as Seitel (SEI), which quadrupled in the past year off the low, and now after a slight pullback trades at a market multiple of 22, after just recently nicely beating earnings expectations. And regarding the energy futures markets, I sort of follow it, and I have seen over the past year or so that it tended to undershoot the explosion and sustainability of the actual price trend. Analyst comments seem perpetually bearish, as they keep insisting prices are headed for a severe drop. Here is one typical recent example: ``This adds to the pressure for crude oil prices to collapse, but the government also reported larger draws in product stocks to offset at least a portion of the impact here,'' said analyst Tim Evans of IFR Pegasus, a research firm. Few people even now believe that this energy boom is for real. So who needs tech stocks? -- posted by Steven_Russell » lcha - Re: Re: Amazing! In response to message posted by Steven_Russell:
I am trying to concentrate on E & P companies whose production is natural gas oriented. I believe gas will be strong for several more years as we are barely replacing our reserves during a time of rising demand. Big gas fields are getting harder to find and the smaller plays deplete rather quickly. I also like the fact that there is not a foreign "gas cartel" to screw with pricing. The only thing that would alter my outlook on energy is a big, bad, long lasting recession that sinks demand. Barring that, there are so many shortages in every facet of energy exploration and production (skilled personnel, rigs, dual hulled tankers, pipelines,NG,INVESTMENT CAPITAL) that I see the outlook as very positive. -- posted by lcha » JeffChristy - Re: Re: Re: Amazing! Actually all we need to get any thread hopping is for someone with some knowledge, interest or passion in a certain sector to start posting, and others will follow. .....Jen -- posted by JenL_2 » JenL_2 - Pioneer Natural Resources : PXD In response to message posted by JeffChristy:Jeff - Comparing PXD with competitors @ Quicken.com... .....Jen
