Sorry Folks! Not sure what the problem is, but my images above are not loading properly. Hopefully it's just a temporary server problem, and will be OK in awhile. Anyway - See you all in chat!.....Jen

» Felipe - Jen and Kirk

Kirk, speaking of teaching pigs to sing, I finally figured out how to post charts using HTML. This pig can sing!

Thanks again for your help. And Jen, if you're not a teacher of some sort, the teaching profession's crown is missing a jewel.

Thanks Felipe - I knew you could do it! So often it's just mental blocks that keep us from learning new things. Actually I was a teacher at one time....Jen

» JenL_2 - Posting a link or picture in discussion and chat

Whirlwind - Here's an update to some directions for posting images and links in a previous post

Posting a link in a discussion message

- Hi-lite the url you want to copy.

- Right-click and choose "Copy".

- Left-click where you want to put the url in a message.

- Right-click and choose "Paste".

- Hit "preview message" or "post message" and the url automatically turns into a clickable link.

Posting a link in chat

- Hi-lite the url you want to copy.

- Right-click and choose "Copy".

- Left-click where you want to put the url in the chat message box.

- Hit Ctrl V

- Hit "Enter" and the url automatically turns into a clickable link on the chat screen.

Making clickable links

- Any url that you post in a discussion message will automatically become a clickable link.

- Use this HTML code to make a "hidden url" clickable link in a discussion message:

<a href="url">text</a>

Posting a Picture or Animation

- There are two ways to post a picture or animation in a discussion message. You can use HTML to post the actual image or you can post a clickable link to your image. But first you have to save the image and upload it to your webspace.

Saving an image

- Right click on any image on the internet that you want to save.

- Choose "Save Picture As".

- That brings up the "Save Picture" box.

- Use the pull-down menu to choose where you want to save the image (I use a zip disk).

- You can change the name of the image before you save it.

- The type of the image (usually gif or jpeg) automatically shows.

- Click on "Save".

Uploading your image to your webspace

- To register for a free homepage at Suite 101 - click on the "functions" tab at the top.

- Click on "Create your own homepage".

- Follow the directions.

- You don't have to create a homepage right now, just register for one - give it a name and that's all. You can create a homepage later.

- Click on "Files and Images".

- Upload and delete files and images for use
on the HomePage.

- Click on "Browse".

- Look in the drive or folder where you've saved the image.

- Highlight the image icon.

- Click on "open".

- The image name shows up in the upload box.

- Click on "Upload file/image"

- The image name shows up in your file manager directory.

- Click on the image name

- That gives you the HTML that you need to post your image:

<img src="url" width=__ height=__ align="right">

- Copy and paste that HTML code into your discussion message.

- Delete this part of the HTML code:

align="right"

- Preview Message to check your HTML

- Post Message

Posting a link to an image

- Right-Click and copy the url of the image.

- In a discussion message Right-Click and paste the url.

- In chat hit Ctrl V to paste the image url into the chat message box and then hit "Enter".

Hope this helps. Feel free to email me with any questions, or ask at...

Or check out Tim's Cheat Sheet

It's really pretty easy, and a lot of fun to use HTML when posting messages.

In response to message posted by JenL_2:

I don't need to hit Control V to paste into the chat dialog box if I enter chat through a Netscape 4.x browser. Right button click and paste seems to work with Netscape.

» JenL_2 - Netscape vs IE

In response to message posted by Q_out:

Interesting Q_out - another difference between IE and Netscape. We keep finding more of them.

For instance - Felipe is trying to post charts that are created by an IE Webpage wizard and they look fine in IE but are messed up somehow when viewed in Netscape.

Here's another one:

Hope to See
You All
in Chat!!

I used the HTML code for "Marquee" and for "Blink". Viewing with IE you see the marquee effect, but in Netscape you see the blinking.

Sure would be nice if IE and Netscape could just work the same!....Jen
