» Heinz57 - I think that's a good idea, Tony

As I'm teetering on the brink of being a new investor, I've gone through the same thought process.

So I may be naive and giving away a good thought, but:
Family friend, who is a Hospital administrator, mentioned doing business with ORGANOGENESYS (ORG). Short description, they use newborn (not aborted!) foreskins to culture skin grafts, and are working on culturing them into other tissues. No immune reaction.

Growth of # of hospitals being looped in is restricted only by delivery and training capabilities.

Company went through a buy-back within the past few months. Someone has issued a "sell" advice, twice; can't figure it.

Seems to me this is the other side of the coin, and as sure, as investing in a Funeral Home.

What I have yet to figure is a means of efficiently gathering data on companies in similar field(s), so as to compile a portfolio that focuses on this industry.

Rebuttals? Comments? Anything obvious that I, as a newcomer, am not seeing? SP, Jack, be gentle.

Thx Heinz

I have nothing to say relevant to this thread. I just thought that the single post here might be lonely.

» Mark_J - What about Peoplesoft (PSFT)?

I like to buy depressed stocks of good companies, like the recent pick up of semiconductors Teradyne, Applied Materials, etc.

But I've been dollar cost averaging into some of the software stocks like Peoplesoft, Oracle, Manuguistics, etc. The latter two have done well recently, but PSFT seems to be trading in a range just waiting for some news. But all the news I see on Yahoo for them is positive. Seems like they've been trading on low volume lately.

Anybody else looking at PSFT or the others?

» Heinz57 - PeopleSoft

I have experience as a user of their software. All market analysis aside, and only from customer perspective, I view them as best-in-class in the Human Resources Application, and a little less so, and with heavier competition, in the Financial applications bundles.

I would add that HR is a corporate priority only when times are good or they are grooming themselves for a merger. HR is the first budget that is looked at when times are bad. So PeopleSoft's marketing will probably follow economic cycles.

Company has been around for a few years, no longer a start-up.

» KwL - PSFT

I believe this is a good company where it got ahead of itself on fundamentals much like Oracle did. Like Oracle, it was getting "The Next Msft" Valuations and now these have returned to more normal levels. The P/E is still high.... but it could be a good buying point as Mr 57 states.

» Mark_J - vectorvest.com

There is a great website at www.vectorvest.com that gives you 3 free quotes a day. It breaks down tons of measurements for stocks. They like PSFT, hate UTEK.

I've been buying on dips in the teens the past few weeks when I can. Double-digit earnings growth, positively viewed by customers and employees. The PE is high; but it has traditionally sold at high PEs and has produced earnings to support it.

There's my stock promoting spam-o-da-day...
