I agree you can't go all out one one persons advice. The more risk you take the more rewarding.

I did remember that bob called us a leech during the q debacle for not subscribing to his marketimer. The leech refers to the ones that listens to his program every weekend. I can't figure that one. Show that is paid by advertiser and you get salary from it and yet you don't want anyone to listen. Go figure

"Wright100, I am the person that Peter Brimelow was talking about in his CBS Marketwatch column " I retired early in the first half of 2000. I had been following [Brinker's] advice based on his excellent track record and comments he made during a personal appearance in Rochester NY in the late 1990s." Just so it is crystal clear, I will tell all of you that after Bob's lecture and infomercial in Rochester, NY he took questions from the audience and then stayed to talk "one on one" with some of us about retirement. BOB told me very clearly that many many retirees used his newsletter as the basis for their retirement investing. Thus, when I subscribed and got the "invest immediately" bulletin, I naturally followed the advice I WAS PAYING FOR. Am I still pissed? YOU BETCHA. My problem with Bob ISN'T the fact that he made a poor recommendation, it is the fact that he left ALL OF US HANGING month after month after month as the QQQs dropped and dropped. He clearly never had an exit stategy and he obviously didn't care about all of his subscribers who followed him over the cliff. His biggest objective was to bury the call. I tried for months to get in touch with Bob for some explanation of what to do but his staff responded by CANCELING MY NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIPTION. This is how your wonderful Bob Brinker treats people!"

Thanks Retired. Glad retirement is working out well in spite of the setback. Undoubtedly you made the most credible post I've seen here among many that don't pass the smell test trying to help sell his newsletter.

The behaviour you describe doesn't surprise me at all. This is exactly how he treats his callers, and indeed his special guests. He simply mutes them and cuts them off when they don't agree with him, assuming they ever manage to get past the screener. It creates the wonderful illusion that the caller is actually listening to Bob's response.

Some people say they wish they had subscribed for his March 2000 buy signal. I don't regret not having subscribed. I honestly would not have trusted him enough to follow his advice anyway. By that time, I believed he had already missed the true buy signal on October 8, 2002.

James, You could have gotten the same "signal" by reading this thread. MOF: Will L. actually predicted that it was coming a couple of weeks in advance--based on the start of the Iraq War.

And Kirk, even though he doesn't profess to be a "markettimer," is almost always correct on the direction of the market. I've read his threads for about six years, and have noticed that regularly.

It's a long time ago and I don't pretend to remember every detail but I think Will L's famous call is right in there with Brinker's history rewrites. It has entered the mythology of the thread. I felt it was like saying "Turn right at the last traffic light." Huh? If you were on Don Rumsfeld's email list - well, OK, but otherwise...... . Here's a prediction - Before the US adopts the Kyoto Treaty the market will fall and brinker will, at least, reduce his exposure to the market. Now remember iamacamera said it first. BTW did you follow Will's advice? If so you did very, very well.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, so inflames certain people on this thread, as saying you did well on a Brinker reccomendation. The reaction is way beyond normal. Can anyone explain this ? Market timing must touch some subliminal nerve.

I agree that if you are paying attention you can find Brinker's reccomendations on the web within 24 to 48 hours, so you don't need to subscribe - I don't. On the way down I suspect it is less important to react instantly ie bear markets are more gradual than bulls. Does anyone have any stats on that?

I wrote ad nauseum on my Brinker experiences - bad and good. (There may be some way to find them on the thread - I'm sure Kirk would know.) When it was bad - great, but if I gave the devil his due - look out! "Honey" had some other name then but I recognize her familiars at the bottom of the page. How are you, Honey? - well, I trust. I know, I know, you are going to threaten me with your brother Darryl and your two other brothers Darryl and Darryl. Forget it, they frighten me as much as Steve baby and his empty threats.

The fact is that Brinker is a self promoting, spin-meister, radio guy who gives excellent basic financial advice - and I'm NOT talking about his market prognostications and certainly not about his s/t trading tips. Keep that in mind before you risk anything on his advice.

I feel truly sorry for Retired in Phoenix. He had the bad luck, as far as I can tell from his note, to find Brinker just as he made his notorious call. That is a deep psychological blow which, in investing, is the hardest of all blows to overcome. I had years of having Brinker's advice pay off for me, so mad as I was I could look at it differently. I had just sidestepped a bear market. I then had 2+ years to cool off. I don't care if he missed the absolute bottom in 2003, by getting in within a short time after the call you would have made a small fortune. I won't apologize for refusing to cut my nose to spite my face.

Well I still travel 1st class (always - at least 6 international trips/year). I still drive a luxury car. I still eat in America and Europe's best restaurants. I am as shallow and materialistic as I was the first time I listened to Bob Brinker - but - I'm a lot richer. So I'll drink a glass of champagne (vintage of course) to BB's health and promise never, ever to follow any of his short term trades.

I hope Bernardo reads this.

I do enjoy an occasional visit here. Kirk and some posters have some good ideas and others often reccomend "different" reading matter. But if you expect an evenhanded approach - forget it!

I can't help laughing when some naive surfer stumbles in believing it is a pro Brinker site. Remember that old lady who when subjected to the usual lynch-mob attack, protested vainly that she was a grandmother. It was like begging Al-Zarquawi not to cut off your head. Fat chance! She had dared to mildly praise Brinker.

I believe "Honey" led that attack. Is that so? If not I apologize.
