I was listening to the show when Bob responded to the caller about the oil tanker stocks. If I recall correctly, the lady was asking if these were good income investments. The impression I got was that Bob did not have a familiarity with these stocks. His response was to look up stock charts and look at their price action. What he found was that these stocks were down quite a bit from their 52 week highs. Because of this volatility and poor performance in recent months, I think his immediate response was to call these stocks too volatile and not a good choice for an income investment.

I've been a holder of one of these stocks for a couple of years, NAT. This has been one of my best performers over these years. Not only have I gotten a great gain in the stock price but I've also gotten a 10 percent plus dividend. The stock clearly ran way past fair value as oil went crazy, and the industry has seen some decline in oil tanker rates, but overall the industry is very healthy, and I believe is a great income investment going forward. So I think Bob definitely got this one wrong. Sometimes he tends to give his opinion on individual stocks and issues he doesn't have a deep familiarity with and I think this is when he goes a bit off. But generally I continue to give him considerable credit for timing the market as well as anyone. But as Permabear, I'm clearly not nearly as optimistic about the stock market or economy going forward as he is. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if he pulls the rabbit out of the hat again and pretty closely times the coming cyclical bull market top.

Took some money off the table today. I'm thinking we're at the top of a trading range. We'll see. It's in my 401k (VTSMX).

I'm hearing "The Mutual Fund Store" on WLS. Is this a total replacement? Wow he's been on there forever.

The Money Store seems like an info-mercial to me. Advice seems jive. They were extoling the virtues of interest-only mortgages. Sheesh. That ain't right, is it?

i like Dave Ramsey's advice that the " debtor is slave to the lender " and don't have any debt , including your home mortgage .

and i think your decision to get out yesterday , on the 9th , was good . with alittle luck there'll be a pullback the end of this month through til the end of october and i'll join ya on the next rally through the end of the year .

That is a good plan. Now if the market will just cooperate, you will have it made.

As I remember, the tables were turned on the famous commodity trading firm, Duke and Duke. Two disgruntled employees intercepted the delivery of a stolen orange crop report that the principals were planning to use to corner the orange concentrate market on the New York Commodities Exchange. Instead, the two employees used that intercepted report to bankrupt Duke & Duke by selling short orange juice concetrate right at the top after that firm had bid up the price in the mistaken belief that concentrate prices would be high due to a winter freeze in Florida.

As I remember, the former principals of Duke & Duke had become derelicts trying to keep warm over a small camp fire they had built from scrap wood outside a MacDonad's in Queens, New York. They had a tiny transister radio and were listening to Bob Brinker's Moneytalk Progam in an attempt to get hints on how to get rich slowly.

So what gives ?
